Just thinking then, did anyone else see the nahas tackle on smith I think it was where he threw his head straight into the ground. No free kick given, which suggests the umpires have forgotten sling tackles so they could focus on sliding, but surely he'll be reported for it.. thoughts?

this is one of the reasons why i quite like this site. i hate chat forums where everyone is all tough and powerful behind their keyboard. well done mods.
anyway i'm still disappointed. i think i'll go watch the swans at geelong from last year again to remember that we can play footy occasionally in victoria.
the st kilda game now looks very loseable and they really arent all that.Comment

Just back from the 'G and it was a terrible game to watch. Agree with most of the criticisms, especially that we were not switched on from the start, that we were beaten in the midfield quite badly which meant our defence had to work overtime and our forwards, such as they are, got few opportunities and managed to stuff up many of those. You cannot win games when you allow such a weight of possession to the opposition.
Umpiring wasn't responsible for the loss but didn't help matters, especially when allowing Riewoldt to give Ted the big two-handed shove in the back.
At least four times that I saw, we carefully kicked the ball to Richmond players - Benny and Nic Mal the worst offenders; so did Jetts once, but the rest of his game was OK. Kennedy worked hard as usual, AJ was good even though Miller got away from him a couple of times. TDL did well when he came on, wish he'd been there from the start, he's one of our most accurate field kicks. Smooch didn't have a bad game. I'd persist with Reg forward. I'd like to see Pyke replace Seaby for a few weeks; shortly before half time the radio commentators said he had no possessions to that point.
All in all a really disappointing afternoon. Fortunately Mrs d. packed a couple of Mars bars when comfort food came in handy.
Finally, Richmond are a better side than people are allowing. They have been playing quite well in close losses, and today they grabbed their chances, held their marks, manned up in defence and placed themselves well to receive the ball. We did none of those things. The result should not surprise.
I'll now add, Thanks for the autosave; I thought my musings had been lost when the thread was closed. Frustration replaced by contentment! He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

You'd think so. I have not seen one of them in AFL for a long time. It looked bad and could well have produced a disastrous injury....Just thinking then, did anyone else see the nahas tackle on smith I think it was where he threw his head straight into the ground. No free kick given, which suggests the umpires have forgotten sling tackles so they could focus on sliding, but surely he'll be reported for it.. thoughts?Comment

I don't care that people are frustrated at this afternoon's game and are looking to take their anger out on others. If you can't play nice, then go and take your chill pills and come back and post when you've calmed down. This thread is temporarily closed while I do a clean up job.
Anyone who abuses anyone else from this point forward is going to receive a 24 hour enforced cooling off period.

Non abusive tigers game day thread
My thoughts after reading the game day thread and watching the misery that was the game.
Swans not great overall, and i was incredibly insulted we were not favourites with the bookies.
Umpires (in particular to most of Riewoldts goals and some holding the ball decisions against the swans when the game was in the balance) @@@@E!
TDL was fine he does what a forward should do, mark and kick goals. ( for those that think he didnt do much on the richmond spread, well FFS he shouldnt have to do anything, the delivery from the mids was @@@@) we cant just bomb it forward, it just doesnt work. He is the replacement for Benny McGlynn in my opinion and i love little Benny, but he just is not delivering!
Jessy White just doesnt deliver, he should be awesome but he isnt. ( i was a believer but am now a doubter)
AJ is awesome.
Everitt? Why oh why do we persist?
Sammy Reid is still a gun although having a rough patch, even Carey in his prime wouldnt have done much with the kind of delivery we are dishin up.
My conclusion: We miss Mummy desperately and cant afford to not have our best 22 if we want to be contenders this year.Comment

i'm happy enough to bite. our team has a list. if we rated everyone from 1-40 white is never going to be top ten and maybe not top twenty. but our midfield group and delivery was just desperately bad - and too often because of a forward line which is chopped and changed without any improvement the midfield bombs it long to a contest where our half forwards get to the pack very much second
white was rarely outmarked forward of the ball. on the other hand our half forwards were smashed time and time again.
the real issue is that the range of players in our first 10 who failed tonight and the coaching group who were appalling. o keefe playing spare at the back because he was comprehensively outplayed forward. mcveigh who did not win a one on one contest. richards and grundy who conceded too easily. mcglynn who was anonymous.
name one of our midfield group who beat their direct opponent - the only possibility is jetta - name one of our defenders besides aj who beat their forward or name one forward who beat their opponent.Regards,

I would love to see nipper play next week, he offers a lot more than some of the others player in the forward 50, and I am also eagerly awaiting the return of Spangher! Him plus goodes and mumford in the side when that is finally able to happen again, will surely make a difference for the better.
And agree, everett needs to go. For mine, he would be out with TDL to start and nipper as sub. Also perhaps seaby and pike to have a switch if the coaches are feeling creative, yet I don't see that happening.
And anyone see how bad Parker's injury was? We can't really afford to lose him now, even just for a week.Comment

Eddie McGuire said sonething ridiculous about the Nahas tackle. Cant remember exactly but it was something along the lines of 'he had no other option'. Did anyone else notice Ed's enthusiam towards the Tiges? He almost shot a load calling for a Tiges free on a 'holding the ball' call. Does he hate us that much? Very unprofessional i thought but maybe thats just me.

Great - he takes one mark all game, in junk time, against someone 6 inches smaller than him. He's a shoe in next week then....
Seriously - our club is now built on the 'Bloods Culture'. Can anyone seriously tell me how White has anything to do with that whatsoever?Regards,

Worst Swans performance in terms of effort and intensity for a very long time. Fortunately they don't dish up games like that very often. Unfortunately when they do, it is usually in Melbourne. Hence I am feeling particularly cheesed off. Us Melbourne-based fans don't get to see the boys play very often, and we deserve better than that.Comment

Big reality check for me today id been really talking up our chances this year but not now,yes well be there in finals as always but we really are just making up the numbers,if you can't win at the MCG then whats the point?Shaw shouldnt be taken to melbourne he always stinks it up down here, although he wasnt alone today.Everitt will never be a good consistent player just doesnt have the tougness needed.Tdl should have played the whole game looked good once brought on.Comment
