The umpires should all be sacked too. I'm not going to blame them but they sure didnt help. Some of their decisions, or lack of decisions and inconsistency against us, was disgraceful. Since when was spear tackling, by grabbing the player over his shoulders and slamming his head into the turf, not a reportable free kick?

Cruiser, I completely agree. Before today, I didn't mind Richmond as a team. But today Riewoldt played like a dog and the umpires didn't notice or even worse, didn't do the right thing. A lot of obvious errors replayed over and over on the displays which was embarrassing. They played dirty which I didn't like.

To me, this is the best explanation for what happened yesterday.

For some reason, we just didn't seem to be mentally prepared for the game.

Nah. Since we lost Fosdike we have not had enough gut runners. On a smaller ground, you can have as many strong around the footy types as Kennedy, Bolton, Jack, Parker.

On the bigger ground you get exposed for lack of run. Just look at the Richmond uncontested possession rate they had no trouble getting free as really only hanners and Jetta are strong runners

Maybe they need to try Nathan Gordon. But put simply we can't win on the MCG for lack of run. it's obvious at the ground

          Our midfield was murdered yesterday

So many times in the last half we won the footy off half back and turned it over as there was no option upfield

Getting sick of it frankly as it is so predictable

Have not read all posts couldnt bare it after sitting thru the game . What an incipid performance shurely we must drop the under performers. Everitt for starters looks weak, Shaw 2 in a row stupid free kicks given away. McGlynn again poor, AJ still making too many mistakes, We also saw today why ROK is not a backman, surely with no Goodes we need to provide some help for Reid hes getting pummled by many oppostion players Marty M still does that clanger little kick which invariably becomes a costly turnover. Today our capt was also poor. Seby disgraceful today, our family has been suppoting him for the last few but today he was lost and did lose. Jesse is a tease doent do enough. So with the reserves winningeasily a few changes are envisaged.

While I agree that a shortage of gut runners in the side is an issue, it can't completely explain our performances at the MCG for the past 5 or 6 seasons. We have managed to win at Subi, and only two weeks ago we won at York Park.

Give AJ a break. One of the few real goers

I actually think AJ was one of our best. Stood up and was rarely beaten, even on Riewoldt

I guess we were part of history yesterday - the first time a Sydney team won that wasn't the Swans. Sad :-(

Those wins are still rarities. Our wins on subiaco, MCG football I.e the bigger grounds are rare. That is two of very few wins in seven years

I think realistically Hawthorn had a similar sort of day that day as we did yesterday. Put it behind us and move on.

We've won quite a few at Subi 4 out of the last 6 games there in fact.

I can't even think of one good reason to make TDL the sub - particularly when we lack a functional forward structure.

Personally I'm OK to persevere with White and TDL - but they have to play as deep forwards.

They need to decide what they want Everitt to be - started last year back, moved him forward against WCE when Lynch was killing him, he kicks a couple of goals and we try him as a forward. Then hatch a plan in the pre season that he can be a tall midfielder, and has since been a sub and now a forward again.

I don't think he's got the intensity to make it - but we're doing him no favours.
Steve, Everitt is not good enough. He is a seconds standard player. He had a real chance to show his wares yesterday and he failed miserably. That missed goal from 5 metres was deplorable. You just can't keep giving his type chance after chance. You have to try Walsh or Morton. If they kick a couple of goals and apply decent forward pressure it makes a hell of a difference to a game.

horrible to watch a second time around.
Or maybe we start to win some centre clearances. They flogged us in this area all game. Got into their forward line then flooded their forward line so we couldn't get it out. They had players at the ball and our players and spread across the ground just outside 50. In the first 5 games our centre clearance play was as good as it has been for years. The last 2 games we have been done like a dinner. Suspect we miss Mumford and a contest at centre bounces. At least with Pyke he is mobile and has a go.
