We fumbled and hand-balled to standing targets not running players. We managed to avoid running players tonight. Every time we had what looked to be an advantage we just steadied the game and played right into their hands. Instead of getting the play going we just passed the ball around. So many times we had the chance to break them open and we just took the wrong options. We chose to handball and keep the ball in rather than to take the risk on the running player.

hooray you have finally realized it is the players who are responsible for this - not the coaching staff who WOULD NOT have instructed the players to play the way they did.
The players have to question their commitment to each other - they were outplayed. So Wolfie if you think that you can coach the team better, suggest you get out of your Smokey Dawson catapult chair and get yourself down to the SCG and offer your services and expert advice.
Time to move on and look to next week.

I guess we all see things different ways. Agree it was a lazy, lacklustre performance by the team, and especially the midfield, but I thought Macca was one of the better players. He seemed to be trying to run to space to offeran option, and a few times created a neutral contest when he was outnumbered. Hanners didn't stop trying either.

I thought Parker had a shocker, while Bolton and Bird were anonymous. JPK was allowed no space.

Jack was good in parts, at least when he had the ball. Jetta only really came into it in junk time. TDL had no chance as sub but looked reasonably lively when he did come on. Benny Mac also tried pretty hard but didn't have enough mates.

But wardy if you were where they were and looked up to see no and I actually mean no on a number of occasions players in front of the ball, that is the responsibility of the coaches. Also when you see three forwards prowling inside fifty and they are pike, Walsh and Sam Reid, and neither seem able to lead and no smalls within 50 metres what sort of options ae there ?

The choice of those three v riewoldt Milne and kossie meant that if they got it inside fifty about the same number of times they win. But we kept looking forward and there was nothing there and so we kept in hand.

Can you really win with LRT, Walsh and Pyke in the same team when the opposition is not Melbourne?

Nor Seaby, Everitt, and White. Spangher a start, but Goodes and Mumford need to be fit if we're to compete at the top.

Agreed Macca tried but a true bloods captain? Like Hall? Like Goodes? Like Kelly? I'm sorry, I can't buy it

Thought it was weird to see bolts marshalling the team at the break. Not that its a bad thing, just makes me doubt mcveigh as a capt.
Liz, i just don't think his disposal is that good, too many dinky high arch kicks, too many hospital handballs....

I think macca tried hard. But he really is an uncontested footballer. Unfortunately he is not quite quick enough for that. When he gets the ball in space he is a good user. He just doesn't get it enough and doesn't seem able to get outside enough to have his teammates use him.

Bird seemed really poor to me. Parkers errors were more disastrous but bird cost us a bit. Jetta worked hard trying to provide options but was burned too often by our poor skills. Mcglynn easily best on ground. Rok as a loose man in defence is wasteful, especially at the start of the last quarter.

Our two rucks were badly outplayed by a fella who tries hard. Lrt has been lucky that he has been picked against the poor teams and was taught a lesson tonight.

Id be surprised actually if we make the 8. The back half of the season is really hard for us. I struggle to see another 7 wins if I look at the draw. And to be honest maybe where are where we are.

I think Macca is really a "fair weather" player.. When we are up and running he looks really good. I just don't think he is a captain who can inject himself and change the course of a game like a Kirk, Kelly or even Goodes.. I see he tries.. That is not good enough.. Kirk didn't have the same skills as Macca but had more guts in his little finger....

One of our problems is we are as soft as hell. No grunt! Nobody willing to get in and get their knuckles dirty in the name of protecting your mate! Last week in the resies there was a situation where their mob started to get a bit titchy and we basically let them give our young blokes hell. That wouldn't have happened if Currie was there, he would have come flying in and crunched the bastards. Unfortunately I think we are a bit soft. Asking for frees like Mal and Macca even though I agree a lot of the frees were really bad in their favour. That is not the point! Swans players are used to that and we got on with it! The year we won the premiership we had the worst frees for record in the comp but we still won despite the grey mongrels! I think some of our players are becoming soft! Marshmallow Soft!

i remember kirky getting smashed in a shirt front by byron pickett in the 2003 qualifying final against port
the game was on the line and he simply just got up!
in the 2005 grand final we really needed a goal and hall took a mark and booted it through from 55m to get the momentum back
i miss those days!
goodes is the only player we have with that game changing,team morale lifting ability
lets face it, if goodes didnt get injured against the crows, we most likely wouldve won the game and been 6-0

These are grown men who know how to play and read the game, if they don't then they shouldn't be playing senior elite level footy. A coach can only give instruction, advice and guidance to group with which he has been given. If the players don't take that advice & instruction( and I'm pretty sure that Horse would not have instructed them to do what they did) then the players are accountable. Perhaps we all think that the team we love is a lot better than it actually is. I'm all for being positive, however this performance was truly awful (sorry to say) but continually pointing the finger at Longmire is wrong.
