I thought the Bombers were trying to milk frees all night. They were bending the knees to get a head high or throwing themselves forward and getting them. That Watson mark wasn't and he interfered anyway. We went on the defensive in the last. I wonder when our coaches realised Watson had moved forward and they were going a lot quicker in the mids. they seemed to take forever to work it out. We needed to put them away and didn't. Very lucky thanks to Dempsey to get a win when it should have been a slaughter.

I also felt sorry for big Mike and thought him a bit stiff! He wasn't over the mark just within the zone as it is called now! Unfortunate but that is the rule. One on the mark and no player within 15 metres. I would like to thank Mal for kicking to the Bombers almost every kick he got last night. Loved Tony Armstrong's game very good delivery and I wish he and Drey were kicking out all night. I hate Rhyce kicking out! I don't like Marty much more! They are better utilised upfield getting the ball from the kick in. With pace & run we could be on a winner there. Tony pinpoints a player every time and runs on. Drey can kick 70-80 metres to the centre and we can just take off!

I can remember one time there was no free kick but hepell fell to the ground to avoid a tackle when he was about to get tackled, the swans player still tackled him with great skill not getting in his back but the umpire said he had no prior surely dropping your knees to get under a tackle or earn a free kick is prior oppurtionity.

I'm another who felt for Mike. He still looked devastated when they were going down into the rooms, while the others were looking happy/relieved. Longmire's somewhat negative comments about Mike in response to a question about this incident in the post-game interview won't have helped Mike's confidence either. I thought the coach could have been a bit more circumspect. Clearly it was a misunderstanding and it was not the only mistake made by a player during the match.

I agree totally should have been a gonnah. There was also a lot of handball that looked very much like throws coming from the Bombers in the last quarter as well. I looked at the tape and it was pretty damning for the tripe umpiring. Just want to say something about Horse's press conference. He said something that Lethal & Mick keep saying 'it is a simple game when it comes down to it' let's face it, it isn't rocket science but of course you have to get even the simple things right to win. We did that for most of the night. Unfortunately we forgot them in the last. Both players and coaches!

What do RWOer's think about Mal's lack of ability to hit a target all of a sudden. He was fantastic for most of the first half of the season. I loved his work in the pre-season and in the early matches but now he seems to be off the boil. When he is up and running he is deadly. I also worry that so many recons has stuffed up his run and he has lost quite a lot of speed! I think he will come good but I think a few more weeks in the Two's could be in line for him!

The only negative comment I will make about the game is halfway through Essendons charge in the last quarter, there was a period where Longmire left LRT in the ruck against Ryder for maybe 2-3 centre bounces and a few ruck contests around the ground during this time, with Mumford at full forward and Pike on the bench and Ryder was just killing it and I'm convinced Essendon got at least 2 goals out of this. Annoyed me to no end when this happened.

Other than was very pleased on the night, the first 3 quarters where just awesome and as a lot of people have already stated we had run out of legs in the last, combined with Hanners being off, Smith being hindered with a knee injury and whatever reason Mcveigh had to go down to the rooms for an extended period of time didnt help the cause in the last and was very happy to be in front when the final siren went.

Enjoyed exchanging a few words with some Essendon @@@@@@ re the booing of umpires as they were coming off the ground, as if THEY were the ones that cost them the game......All I said to the Essendon supporters around me was..." you're kidding me aren't you?, they're the pricks that just about won it for you in the last quarter and your booing them?!?!?!", give me a break.

Have won a free lunch from an Essendon supporting mate at work which is an added bonus.....Curry Katsu-don coming my way for Friday afternoon lunch thankyou very much.

On a more serious note, our seats where in the AFL MEMBERS, level 1, 3 rows from the front and only 10 meters around from the swans bench. My question is...who is the Sydney Swans water girl with the blonde hair in a pony tail? Would have to be one of the most attractive girls I've seen in at a club!!!, a real stunner!!! Anyone else notice her? Made it tough for me to concentrate on the game! I have much respect for the players being able to keep their concentration levels up during games with her being around!!! Sheesh.

                b) there is a Plan B gameplan for 'bigger' grounds;
                c) it was an accident that developed
When I turned on the TV, there was the end of a Leigh Tudor segment on the Swan's midfield tactics. What did it say, and was there any hint of what was to come? (for 3 quarters!)
I agree MM, I was most disappointed to see us take such a slow team into the Don's game. In fact the way we got run off our feet in the second half was what I had feared for the whole game.
But I credit Longmire for his surprise game plan which seemed to confuse and disrupt the Don's for a half. So MM I suspect it was b) brought about by a) and well done Horse!
Incidentally, while during an interview our coach joked that he had no plan for the Swans to lose the stoppages, I notice he didn't claim he had no plan to have less stoppages, because it looked to me like there was, and that it worked.

A good idea Capt. Perhaps the umps should view dropping ones knees like an attempted fend. Proof of prior opportunity.

Reading the newspapers journalism in Melb is pretty poor

Mentions on Dan Hannerbery going off and the impact on our midfield = 1
Mentions that Alwyn Davey should get cited = 0
Mentions of the umpiring, not complaining of the free kicks they received, we never looked like getting a free - throwing is clearly ok now

Winning in Melbourne is good, but they are not anywhere near as good as many other teams we have played. Certainly not a threat for top 4 only two quality players Watson and Heppel

Melksham must be in the worst few midfielders in the comp
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

I went to the game, was bloody awesome, I agree with most people here the boys just ran out of legs. Essendon supporters have to be the most arrogant supporters in the AFL, as if not kicking straight cost them the game, half the points they had were never going to be goals due to the fantastic pressure the swans had on them in the first 3 quarters. If we had that pressure through 4 quarters and our notable absent players on the field, Essendon would not even be in cooee of us.

Singing the song after the game with a few mates and I got pushed out of the way by disgruntleded Essendon supporter, I was like "are you right mate" he said "wait till you play someone decent" I said "What like Melbourne, how did that go for you? Argumentnt over.

The press down here are so one sided its almost a joke, all we have got this week is:

*Essendon should have one if they kicked straight
*Essendon should have won as it should not have been a play on
*Essendon should have won as someone had a laser pointer in the ground

Its pretty simple in my eyes, they could not get near us in 3 quarters, they only played one good quarter.

I would just like to remind everyone that we won,the Bombers lost! Had we taken a few more chances they would never have come close. Had the umpiring been consistent, we would have received a few more frees in that last quarter. A great win in the end hanging on when the game started to look like it was lost!

I agree - bad misses in front of goal by ( Reid , Hanners & Jetta ) kept them almost close enough !!

Make no mistake, Bomber made Geelong famous in recent years for pulling frees and incredibly a change if club has seen his new club adopt similar traits. Shoot me down if you want but im convinced Bomber is the main reason for the Bombers improved acting skills - Jetta most noticeably.

On the throws: It is happening in all games. Yesterday Essendon's were dead set forward rugby throws. I haven't detected us doing that but we try plenty of over the head handballs that look like throws to me. I suspect with only 36 frees given in the game, and often low free kick counts in many games, that the Geish has said we can't pay them all, so throws are ok until highlighted by the media. The problem I see is they sometimes pay throws, but ignore many others.

On Mal: I think there are 3 factors. His 2 kneee operations that has stymied his kicking (I reckon his kicking has always been over rated, low height, easily picked off), the game has got too hard for him (Always hurries his kicks) and very one sided that gets him into awful trouble.

Armstrong was very good and will only get better and will surely take his spot.

Davey has been offered 2 weeks for his hit on Hanners. Wonder how the ump who failed to give the free, when right on top of the action, is feeling right now.

Should be umpiring in Dimboola next week.
