    Swans salary cap concessions

As I said in another thread:

Sydney Swans - 2012 AFL Premiers

Everything else is just bull@@@@. Let the ignorant media crap on about whatever they want to crap on about. That name on the cup will never change.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

That really is a silly argument. How many Swans supporters actually live in Sydney, not the greater city of Sydney, but the postcode of 2000? I could go through every team in the AFL and give you illustrations that people do not live in the areas/suburbs that the team they support is named after.

Yes I know years ago so did we but they sent us up here and basically said sink or swim with absolutely no infrastructure at all. Unlike the other clubs that constantly hold their hands out for a cheque every year. They also get a far higher percentage of the 'Grass Roots Footy' dollar, especially in Victoria.
You forgot to add that every other team benefited financially from the sale of the Swans not once, but twice. What was paid for the Swans licence was split between the other 11 clubs at the time.

They say our salary cap concessions should be removed, what they reckon is that we should go back to the bottom of the ladder where we belong (providing the proper Melbourne clubs with a regular percentage boost and an excellent poaching opportunity).
And Liz is right about the media's schizophrenic attitude to us. And as for star quality, I loved Tom Harley's comment "Forwards build memberships, Defenders win premierships."

Whilst some the stupid fans of opposition teams may whinge and moan at a time like this, the smart clubs will be analysing us to try to work out what the hell it is about our culture that helps us get the utmost out of our abilities and play like such a wonderful unit.

Its should also be noted that Tom Harley was a defender.

How does it work tho, all clubs voted for it continue, do we just have more to spend or is it additional to the cap, say divided amongst the list
Theres not much left to say

I thought that it was only related (theoretically) to the retention of players that we already had - i.e. if someone wanted to leave (due to Sydney's high cost of living) we were able to offer them more money from this special pool, but in reality it is probably up to the Swans management to spend it however they see fit.

Perhaps there should be more restrictions on how it is used - although this would be difficult to do.

                      Re: Swans salary cap concessions

My thinking is it has to be an explicit percentage loading on all contracts. Otherwise what happens if it gets cut... we just get trapped over the cap.

The afl annual report has it separate to tpp but its not broken down per club.

Some opposition fans think its basically an extra million we can say buy tippett with

Why not bring back the old "Coulter Law" then all clubs would be happy
                          Quote..
The Depression affected football considerably. The VFL was
concerned about ?excessive payments? being offered to players
and in March 1930 introduced the Coulter Law,which
restricted (individual) player payments to three pounds a
                          match.
Not all VFL clubs were able to pay the maximum of ?3 per player (which
increased in time with the cost of living),
but some clubs were able to
(and did) pay above the maximum.
I can remember V.F.L. footy clubs paying around 10 pounds a game 1950s.
In those days training was on Tuesday and Thursday nights only. 18 matches a season plus 4 final games.Oh while i think of it at 3/4 time the players had oranges and most had a "smoke" as well.
Google .."History of Player Recruitment, Transfer and Payment Rules in VFL/AFL"
For a good read on the beginnings of VFL

A salary cap question. If Jude decides to retire would LRT or O'Keefe be the next potential candidate to go into the veterans spot on the list?

According to the AFL's website there is no limit on the number of players on the Veteran List provided that they qualify:

I recall reading that the veterans list concessions had been removed under the latest CBA as part of the introduction of free agency. IS that correct?
