Two good teams having a red hot go. Great warm up for the finals. So far we have gone down to Crows by 5, Pies by 8 and now Hawks by 7. This is great grounding and preparation for the real stuff. I think we can beat Geelong next week. Does anyone know if LRT was injured? Everit to come in if LRT injured. Armstrong the sub as he did well in the last game against Cats

That's one win out of four vs top four teams. Not a good record to carry into the finals.

We lost clearances 58-57 but lost critical ones in the last. Hawks were too good.

swans shouldnt bother tackling hawthorn next time, they dont get called for holding the ball. Use the energy elsewhere

Our effort tonight was fantastic - blaming umpires is a cop out - we had a good run in the first quarter remember - centre clearances at the end did not go our way but thats footy - Josh can't win every contest - I was more disappointed with Goodes and tonight - we needed him to deliver and unfortunately he didnt.

goodes was ok forward, no impact in the middle really.

While it was closer still had the semi final problem, didnt mark it forward and got spoiled so often, Goodes was about the only forward who could mark. Lrt was mr invisible and reid was no where to be found most of the game.

We won the clearances around the ground but got flogged out of the guts.

Oh well it was exciting for a while!! Malthouse's comments about Sydney and Adelaide appear to be true. I will be very surprised if its not a Hawks v Magpies GF.

but leaving that to one side - how is it possible that they managed a mark inside 50 with 2 minutes to go - where exactly were all of these numbers that were supposed to be behind the ball.
Dont want to single out anyone, but how lUKE Parker let Hodge (who is not fast) back inside towards the centre, rather than chasing him to the boundary is beyond me. He then found it easy to find Burgoyne with a pass. There with only 1 minute and 40 seconds left.

So disappointing, but sometimes it's just a game of centimeters.

Hopefully next time we meet, we can beat them.

We will learn a lot from tonight and hopefully beat them when it counts.

Missed Jude's hardness in the centre clearances.

As much as we have been brave against the top teams we just seem to fall at the last hurdle. We have had both Collingwood and Hawthorn on the ropes but let them both off the hook. That 10 minute lapse in the 2nd quarter is a real worry. As much as we bemoan our forward line function/structure we certainly lack the small forward to capitalise on the spilled ball. For mine McGlynn has been poor against good sides. When he does get it he coughs it up something chronic. We must get Bolton back next week to at least give us a contest up forward on the ground.

If we just marked 10% more of our forward entries it would be a start, a Reid further along in his development would be fantastic

Against pies n hawks we were the better team, it was a game of inches and we were unlucky.

One thing for sure is that we'll learn more out of the pies n hawks games than they will. An extra 1-2% improvement and we will win the return bouts.

Parker's inexperience caught him out. Also in the last quarter he held onto the footy far too long. It just let Hawthorn get players back. You could blame Parker for that blunder on Hodge but strewth they just caressed the footy out of the centre to Hodge. I am still stunned that we didn't really work hard to hold that contest to a brawl.

Win half the centre clearances and the job is done. Our forwards cop a bollocking on here but our mids and rucks at centre clearances don't help their cause.
