Unless they change the rules in the new CBA he would have to be 8 years with the Swans to be a FA (and it would be restricted as he's the 2nd highest paid player at the club). In any case, if he doesn't start performing big time, I think we would be happy to just delist him.

We will be extremely lucky if another club wants him, if they do and are willing to pay 50% of his wage then its a deal. He hasn't lived up to the price tag; both his play and salary are a dead weight that needs to be removed.

I sincerely doubt that Tippett given his age and performances has much currency in the trade market. It's very disappointing how he has performed this year and towards the end of last season. He would comfortably win the most overpaid for performance award of any afl player at present. The criticism must be weighing heavily on him now. I don't know the answer other than that his contract expires at the end of next season.

I hope Tippett can have a solid second half of the season and improve his value. I don't think he's as valuable to us as he would be to a team like Richmond, who are in desperate need of a ruck/forward. They might be willing to take up the final year of his contract with us and give him another couple of years at a lower salary plus incentives. And that might be attractive to Tippett as well. The current draft is a good one for ruck/forwards, so Tippett could get Richmond through this period where they must feel they've got a fair shot at a premiership (although I think it's unlikely), and get a Tippett type replacement in the draft who would be ready to play seniors once Tippett is done. The do have a problem on their hands with how much they will have to pay to keep Dusty.

For us, it would clearly free up the salary cap needed to sign both Jones and Reid, although there is a scenario where it might be better to let Reid go, such as the salary is too high and we get another top 10 pick as compensation.

It's hard to say what the right price is for Tippett if he does finish the season well. Right now, a free giveaway looks like a good deal for us.

The 2nd half of the season for both Tippett and Reid has to play out before we can make a fair assessment.

He's not going anywhere. He's guaranteed $1m next year. He is probably worth $400k max at market value. Which means we'd need to pay $600k next year to get rid of him. Unless someone is desperate for him, we're stuck with a million dollar park footballer.

Barry, I wish it would happen but what evidence is there that Tippet will make a valuable contribution, you know say $800,000 worth?
