Yes its hard to think its the same side as last year. If the Giants wanted to ,they could have beaten us by 10 goals plus. Am I the only one on this thread that believes Tippett should be dropped to the NEAFL? He has to show something, its was OK for goodsey to do this, therefore Tippett should be in the same boat. 62 hit outs by Mumford is embarrassing. If Tippett still cannot play decent in the NEAFL level, maybe we could hope he decides to retire and enables us to free up monies and find a decent ruckman for next year.

Yes Mummy killed us in the ruck last night. Tippett was one of many senior players who had a terrible game. His form since returning from being injured half way through last season is below par. Our ruck stocks are thin at present so he will get more opportunities for this reason.

Everyone is correct. It was rash and thoughtless of me to call out Tippo as a flog. Unthinking of me. Perhaps it was a response to what I saw last night - a player who is confused and unable to execute the skills required of a senior Swan. A shadow of the great Adelaide Crows player that he once was. do apologise. I accept that I should have referred to him as an flop.My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

I too have to apologise for singling out Tippet after Saturday night, he wasn't alone in low contribution. My frustration with him is long term. Four years down the track weighing his impact vs his cost, he can't be rated a successful signing.Comment

Realistically he was never going to have a huge finals series last year - that was definitely destroyed when injured in the QF.
This year he played Rd 1, was injured in the first quarter of Rd 2, missed Rds 3-4, and has now only been back 1 week for Rd 5.
He would have also spent the whole pre-season planning on spending most of his time forward, supporting Naismith in the ruck. You can argue that the highly-paid players should be more adaptable to circumstances, come in and perform at a high level straight away etc - but I think with Naismith back in the team and with a few more games to run into some form and confidence, Tippett can still be a very important player.Comment

Tippett missed rounds 13-21 last year, and the thing I think is clear is that he is a confidence player that needs continuity. Mainly just playing week-after-week, but also I think he's a player that settles into a role if he's given the opportunity to.

We can sugar coat it all we like but Tippett's deal, and it's a six year deal now, has DUD written all over it.
Think about it. If we hadn't gone down his gamble, and I do think it was more of a gamble than Buddy as Buddy had at least evidence of sustained excellence, then we'd definitely still have Mummy on the list, quite likely have Mitchell and might still have Nankervis.
And the cherry on top is the fact he is top of the list of the players that went MIA in the two Grand Finals (p0lease no excuses for him there).
This year our hands are tied but we do have some cards for next season. Nobody was going to take his two year deal off our hands at the end of last season but I do think you might get a club prepared to offer him $500,000 a year for two years with a club option for a third. And he may take that.
We won't get much, if any, trade currency but we may well get $900,000 (or whatever he is on) off the wages bill. That lets us start to rebuild and go into the market for a Free Agent next year or bank some cap space for the year afterComment

It's easy to criticize the Tippett deal in retrospect, but at the time he was very much in demand and touted as one of the best power forwards in the game and on the rise. And we didn't have a true power forward at the time. I suppose we were in competition with others for his services and had to outbid them to get his signature.
I can't see how he leaves until after 2018. It's a long time till then. If he comes good, we may well sign him up for another year. If not, we may well have to delist him.Comment

NOBODY knew when Tippett was recruited that Franklin would come along 12 months later. If the timing of Tippett's and Buddy's availabilty had been reversed, I suspect Buddy and Mumford would be playing for the Swans and Tippett for the Gold Coast.Comment

I wallowed in nostalgia today, watching the match excerpts on You Tube from last year and previous. Tippett was a very good player then and I reckon once he is properly over his injuries will be again. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. Those couple of marks inside 50 in the first quarter on the weekend gave me hope Tippett had turned the corner. Unfortunately, not yet. Still not sure whether it's fitness or confidence.Comment
