I find it vaguely disturbing when people stereotype academic achievement and assume that it equates to being a geek. Kids don't need this.

I dunno, the smart people I know wear the title geek like a proud badge. As you may or may not be able to gleam from my post, I think it's awesome. You are entitled to your reaction and response, but it wasn't intended to offend. (But you are obviously entitled to your offence, like I am entitled to my response).

My youngest daughter is seeing a boy who was dux of his school and is now in his third year of law and to top it off, he's drop dead gorgeous!
He calls himself Leonard with pride!

Yeah geek loses its negative connotations once you leave high school. I'd kill to be a geek. Being clever is a massive bonus in the real world.
