    Most Improved.

Just comparing the AVERAGE stats from last year to the AVERAGE stats for this year for each player.
These are the top players who have improved in the most categories. (in order)
Categories are the same as in the STATS listed on RWO.

    Daniel Hannebery (by mile)
    Andrejs Everitt
    Sam Reid
    Luke Parker
    Jarrad McVeigh
    Nick Malceski

At the other end of the spectrum. The players who have dropped off in the most categories. (in order as well)
Craig Bird (Excused, due to limited game time)
    Lewis Jetta
Lewis Roberts-Thomson (misssed half a game)
    Martin Mattner
Jude Bolton (New role as a more permanent fwd)
    Rhyce Shaw (injured)
    Tony Armstrong

    Makes interesting reading.

These guys are getting significantly more game time. (again in order)
    Luke Parker
    Nick Malceski
    Mike Pyke
    Daniel Hannebery
    Shane Mumford

    Thanks for doing that Scott.
The name that jumps out is Sam Reid. He's supposed to be out of form. I guess it reflects that his workrate around the ground has lifted. With his pair of hands he should be clunking a lot more marks.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Probably more of a reflection of how poor his form was for most of last year. He's coming off a low base.

I was surprised at that myself

Longmire, in his airport press conference, comments on Reid and states that they are happy with his work rate and his pressure acts. It's just that he's not holding his marks.

While our forward line woes might cause the most anguish on here - and it's certainly the area where there is most apparent scope for improvement - we've been putting the score on the board OK, albeit that most of the goals are actually being converted by midfielders. Even against Geelong, we scored 16 goals, which would be enough to win most games. It was just that the defence, "team defence" was a long way short of where it needed to be. Insufficient pressure from the midfield, some mistakes from a couple of inexperienced defenders, and a couple of unfavourable umpiring calls, were the reasons we lost the game.

and some experienced defenders as well.
Melco made a couple of clangers, even though he generelly had a good game, and Reg is just reg when it comes to hitting a target.

Agree with the "surprised" comments about Reid. On reflection, I do acknowledge his work rate has improved. But the dropped marks are just so noticeable. Also, I have this impression of regular handball clangers by him, a few of which have resulted in turnaround goals that really hurt us. Do the stats show up this?

                Yes.

I am not sure what qualifies as a clanger, but according to footywire our top clanger producers are Mumford, Parker, O'Keefe, Bolton and Hannebery. I would take those guys on their current form any day of the week!

As some of you know , I'm not a big one for statistics.
The most improved by a mile, for me a highly visual person, is Mike Pyke. His body language and presence has gone through the roof. He is clunking marks. He is positioning waaaaay better. He is using space better. He is creating space better. His handballing is slowly improving and he is a competent kick for goal. Cringeworthy factor...gone!!!!

I feel these supposed clangers are more than made up for by his extraordinary vision and his ability to see teammates and get the ball to them that other players would never have seen let alone executed successfully. I like the way he thinks 1-2 plays ahead and positions himself for that. a bit of the Goodes/Bartel/Pendlebury factor there simmering away about to blossom hopefully.

As a rule, in pure numbers terms the blokes who get it 30 times a game in traffic will make more clangers then a guy who gets it on the outside a half dozen times a game.

My list is not of the most, but the difference since last season.
Thus those guys may be at the top of the list for clangers, but are possibly on par from last year.

Exactly. High possession usually equates to high Clangers.

Pyke is our number 1 ruck on form visually for mine.
