Longmire, in his airport press conference, comments on Reid and states that they are happy with his work rate and his pressure acts. It's just that he's not holding his marks.
While our forward line woes might cause the most anguish on here - and it's certainly the area where there is most apparent scope for improvement - we've been putting the score on the board OK, albeit that most of the goals are actually being converted by midfielders. Even against Geelong, we scored 16 goals, which would be enough to win most games. It was just that the defence, "team defence" was a long way short of where it needed to be. Insufficient pressure from the midfield, some mistakes from a couple of inexperienced defenders, and a couple of unfavourable umpiring calls, were the reasons we lost the game.
I think Hannas and Lukie have stepped up to a whole new level. Lukie uses the ball so well and is incredibly dangerous anywhere near goal and he combo with Hannas on occasions has been wonderful. Lukie is great in and under and has good strength and is a gun at the quick give for a break away.
Mikie Pykie is laso constantly improving to the stage of being one of the best big men in the game. His contested marking is sublime.
Hannas like Lukie has taken his game to the stars. This bloke will go close to the Brownlow this year.Comment

There you go, my man Melcho:
After six rounds, Malceski leads the competition in rebound 50s (averaging 7.7 a game), is second in kicks (19.3 a game) and equal fifth for bounces (2.7).

At the other end of the spectrum. The players who have dropped off in the most categories. (in order as well)
Craig Bird (Excused, due to limited game time)
Lewis Jetta
Lewis Roberts-Thomson (misssed half a game)
Martin Mattner
What about Martin Mattner's 2012 v 2011 ? Jetta was the only choice for most improved , of course , but that served somewhat to obscure Martin's performance. For a man of his age,it was a pleasant surprise to witness his significant decision-making and disposal improvement. One area where he could never improve is courage:he might not get much of the ball but he has always been totally fearless.
As for the definition of "clangers" , they are usually defined as "unforced errors". I find it a bit arrogant for commentators in armchairs to pontificate on what is "unforced" , if they have never been in the heat of battle.Comment

I'm still standing by my Mike Pyke call. His game last night was very good indeed. He tried his heart out, clunked some contested marks and was a genuine threat where many weren't.

Mumford's average stats are only slightly down on last year, according to official figures. Feels like a lot more than that. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
