I think he is quality, just stuck in a dud team, with a dud coach.
Not sure if 'quality' is the right word to describe Ray Hall, but he is a reasonably mobile tall utility who can genuinely play forward, back, or as a back-up ruckman.

If the price was right, I'd certainly take him.

But that would mean that next season we'd have Ball, Hall, Hall, Bolton and Bolton in the team??

Maybe we could recruit Mark Bolton from the Bombers as well!

Add him and Travis Johnson and its flag here we come.
If you got those two the only flag you'd see is one you bought yourself. I don't want other peoples problems.

LRT plays a similiar role to Hall, doesn't he. Abeitly a bit more forward-ish. Dont know if that is our target. He would essentially compete with LRT for the same spot. I would take LRT over Ray Hall every times.

Ray Hall would be a depth player at best. I wouldn't get him for another thing more than a 3rd round pick. Maybe value for money but quality is a definitely NO.

I'd prefer to re-draft Nick Daffy than take Ray Hall, even if they paid us to take him.

Hall was Doyle's opponent when he looked like taking the Tigers apart that night last year (and probably would have if Rocket hadn't moved him into the ruck).

This is what I hate about 'local players' (and Ireland's recent comments worry me even more) - if he was from Kalgoolie his name wouldn't be mentioned in those that we need or would be useful.

If they're good enough and we can use the 'come home' factor to entice them to sign then fine, but Hall is a plodder who would offer no value at all.

We need a good BIG ENOUGH man down back - Schaubs has had a great season, but if anything happens to him, we're in trouble. For instance, if Jonathan Brown had kicked straight in the round 21 game against Brisbane, we wouldn't have looked so flash. Maybe we can get what we want from current stock; defenders like Gaspar and Scarlett aren't gorillas but they're big enough, and maybe LRT, Powell etc can bulk up sufficiently to take on the job.
And a hardworking midfielder - yes please.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

              Dustin Fletcher weighs 92kg.

              Darren Gaspar weighs 89kg.

              Sean Wellman weighs 90kg.

              Matthew Scarlett weighs 94kg.

These guys are All-Australian KP defenders.

              Jason Saddington weighs 90kg.

He is way too skinny and should be played on a wing or a flank

Yeah but Saddo just has never quite reached that elite level yet.
Given he may still be just one preseasone away, but there is no garrentee on his past showings. We need another backman.
maybe dean solomon can be lured. He is a NSW boy !!

I must admit I find all this rating of a player of his worst season annoying and unjustifiable.

                    Seems completely daft to me.

Now that is a player that I rate. If only the saints were willing to let go of either Hayes of Ball, we'd be set!

Hall is a better bet as permanent CHB or FB than either Saddington or Bolton.

Imagine the options of our backline if he came into the side:

Schuable & Hall holding down CHB and FB.
Leaving Saddington, Barry, Bolton, Kennelly to cover the flanks and pockets. Crouch and Matthews may not make the team!, or come into to free Kennelly up to further up the ground.
Against lesser forward lines, Hall, Schuable, can go forward or Bolton into the midfield.

His inclusion completely changes the dynamic and flexibility of our backline for the better.

Because he's bigger and stronger than either. At best Saddo and Bolton are covering that position until someone better comes along.

I'm a big fan of Hall, he has done well over the last couple of seasons......and thats with the burden of having Spud as a coach, and Richo as a (vice)captain. Under Roos/Maxfield he would be a champ.

He doesn't play as "big" or strong as any of those players.
