No and this is clearly where Steve and myself disagree.

Saddington suffers from setting a standard for himself - ie generally speaking he gets his job done without much fuss - before this year that is.

Bolton on the other hand - when you see a 190cm 83KG play on 100kg 195 cm players (richo and Brown) - everyone naturally thinks that it will be ugly. When he doesn't get carved up - everyone thinks its terrific.

Brown did get on top of him - as he himself said had he kicked accurately in the final qrtr we would have lost - and quite possibly your assessment of Bolton would be different.

He did well but all he really did was make the best of a bad situation

Saddington on the other in the previous two years had just gone about his job - and I don't remember CHB being a problem in those two years though his 2001 was better than his 2002 IMO.

But when he is ordinary (as in this year) that is what everyone remembers - not how good or promising he had been in the previous two.

Bolton is a solid back pocket (and though he has played more games Bolton is only 4 months younger and only had one less year in the AFL

I have the DVD - Lade was Bolton's

Hang on, you are getting yourself confused i think. During these years, we had Dunkley playing FB and Schauble playing CHB, not Saddo IIRC

That's right, we didn't have a major problem at CHB because Schauble was there. How about Saddo at FB and Schauble back at CHB?

        Just joking.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think you'll find if you go back both Schauble and to a lesser extent Dunkley missed a fair bit in 2001/ 2002 especially Schauble.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread Eade even took to playing Schauble up forward. Something he wouldn't be likely to do if Saddington was struggling as a key defender.

Remember the Hawthorn final very well and it ain't my recollection - my memory is that Saddington had a great first half - when he faded - we got our arse kicked - have seen Saddington towell up Barker on the MCG
When did he towell up Barker, and even if he did, Barker is just a footballer, he can play a bit but no worldbeater.

Tarrant beats Saddo everytime, I don't know what 2 games you are talking about, it must have been in Tarrant's first year or 2.

There was more reasons in that final than Saddo fading, if you'll remember correctly the skipper did his hammy right on half time. We were in front, but anyone could tell that we were spent.

Saddo beat Tarrant in the first 3 quarters of the match at Telstra Dome this year. Last quarter was all Tarrant. Anyway Tarrant is no gorilla which is what many people seem to be worried playing Saddo against.

Don't agree on Tarrant at all - we are talking the same games 2001 mid year IIRC - Paul Williams also re-broke his foot

Saddo is not a CHB's arsehole. I hope he can make it next year on a wing or Flank.
I may be contradicting myself a little (seeing as I was making lots of noise about needing a Gorilla/extra 10 kgs per player) but can we pretty please put this statement in a time capsule to be opened at the end of season 2004? I reckon that there is a nearly even chance of it coming back to bite you in the bum. Here's hoping.

Time capsule has opened a bit late, but anyway, we see that Saddington is gone and C Bolton is one of the top 50 players in the comp.

It's crazy to think that Footyhead actually created threads of decent quality back then.
