i have - i think they outplayed us for much of the game. we have to win these games though - particularly the ones at home because we are no certainties against either of the adelaide teams away and it is really hard to see us beating the pies on current form at the mcg. we wont beat geelong at the cat park.

unless we get 15 wins we finish 5th. and that is about where we are at.

Freo are surprisingly good, they will feel more let down than Swans, they kicked woefully , missed a lot of gettable goals. Should have won the game, Sydney are a long way off clicking as a team but still did enough to get 2 points.
It was probably a fair enough outcome.

M/Hammer I don't think we are 5th material. they had 8 out before the game and lost two more during the game. They had less rotations yet it was us who folded and were pushing @@@@ up hill in the last. Our players could hardly raise a trot in the last 15 mis. They certainly were not getting to the ball first, we were second to the ball and that is alway dangerous. We ran out of puff. We decided to save the game rather than win it. Very bad form that. I think our fitness regime needs looking into and the attitude of our players also needs a good look. Maybe we are not hungry enough after winning it last year. There is a school of thought that players get jaded after a premiership because everything after that is a let down.

Ross Lyon is a great coach. But what ugly football he produces.

This is the 2nd game in a row that we were totally outcoached. Coach of the Year or not, I can't believe Horse allowed Silvagni to come out the game for a midfielder and left Mummy in the game. Or at least take out Walsh. We were clearly getting nowhere kicking the ball long into the forward line.

I commented earlier in the week that we should go with a small forward line until Tippet can come in.

Mummy is a shadow of his former self.

We just have to hang in there until round 13.

From where I sat I noticed the following- disposal- shocking, we kicked to the other side even when we weren't under pressure. The forward line looked better to me, they applied lots of defensive pressure, but were still dysfunctional when it counted, kicking goals... Back line worked better, there seemed to be a lot of support from the mids and the backs were functioning as a team.- I thought they all looked really really tired in the fourth, fitness is an issue obviously. Goodes did some good things and seems to be regaining form, McVeigh is great.

How we lost that game I don't know, all I can say is that they really looked exhausted and slow by the middle of the last quarter. Injuries? Lack of desire? lack of fitness? Not sure..

There's no doubt a few of the boys would have lost some hunger. Even as a supporter it's not as exciting. The key is to stay in touch with the top 4 til the bye. I feel with the addition of Tippet, not only will it help our structure but it will give everyone a lift to finally see him on the park, likewise Mitchell and Rohan when he returns (hopefully this year)

Clearly neither Geelong, Brisbane of the early 2000s or the Swans of 2005 attended that School! AFL players are professionals who have a great job ... being paid good money to play sport. I seriously doubt that they wouldn't continue to desire further feelings of euphoria & elation that goes with a Premiership (just speak to those boys at Centrals in the SANFL).

Fair enough. I am usually pretty pessimistic but haven't wanted to write us. Just yet.

But it feels like 2010 - we can beat bad and terrible teams but aren't really all that hard

I think the Dockers made a big contribution towards keeping themselves goalless for two quarters.

Generally when you draw a game after being ahead close to the end, it feels like a loss. That one really feels like two points salvaged because I think the Dockers were signficantly the better side over the whole game.

I certainly believe the Dockers are hard to play against - and they're a good side too. But even allowing for that, we've a lot of improvement to do. Top four is still a very achievable goal because several of the other teams I expected to be contending are a little flat as well. But we really need Goodes and Jetta to work their way into something like consistent form. Jetta was a huge part of the reason for our improvement last season, and while he was OK tonight, he's still way off where he was last year.

Credit to the dockers. We turned off.

Good on the full forward for taking a fullback's mark.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I'm torn between 'how did that one get away?' and 'how did the Dockers not win?'

Freo went nearly half the game kicking 1 goal from 30 forward entries. Some of those shots were eventually going to go in.

They are not a bad side. The Swans haven't figured out what kind of side they want to be this year. Still yet to beat a top eight team.

That was a draw that felt like a win. We were slaughtered in that last quarter

How we got slaughtered in the centre bounces is a worry. I had to check to see if we had any one else in the centre bounce besides the our ruckman. Where our Our midfielders having a sleep when the ball was bounce. It was an ordinary performance and it looks like another hiding coming this week against Collingwood. I just hope Tippett can make a difference. PS. Who is Tommy Walsh's kicking coach?
