I don't want lose mummy but his management would be negligent if they didn't look for a better deal. I think he is gone unfortunately

Would hate to see him go, his best football is very, very good. His unreliable body does mean that we see his best footy less and less though. Not sure the swans could justify an upgraded contract and long term deal. I I think we'd be within our rights to ask for a high first round pick off them if we traded with the Giants, we got pick 14 for Jolly And he was two or three years older than Mummy. A pick in the top 5 would be nice

We actually received pick 14 and 46 (which went to Hawthorn as part of the McGlynn/JPK deal) for Jolly, but I believe we were pushing for more but Collingwood kept their pick 30 for Luke Ball. I think top 5 is out of the question if the Giants were his preferred destination especially now that it is pretty obvious given the ladder they will have pick 1, or pick 2.

This would mean that Jesse would be retained. He always has some amazing fortune with the timing of his contract negotiations.

If we lose him, we need to find a way to get Bellchambers from Essendon.

The Giants also have a mid first round compensation pick. Giants and Suns choose to activate picks - M.afl.com.au

I always thought Mummy would be a great fit for GWS. .

He's just the type of big physical player they need. IMO, even more important on the field than Buddy would be.

And I wouldn't get too excited about compensation. They have 1st pick in the preseason draft and are likely to play hard ball.

I think their 2nd round pick ( which is pretty much a late 1st round pick) is all we could realistically hope for .

He's gotta do what he's gotta do just like back in Geelong. Who are we to cry foul or poor? We got a flag out of him. Bring on a pick and thanks for the memories (I do hope he stays)

Best of luck, and as usual the club has recruited and positioned well when/if he go's to cover him.

If White can continue with some good form, I think trading Mummy would be a good move. I would hope we could do a straight swap with GWS for Kristian Jaksch, last year's number 12 draft pick. It would solidify our KPP future stocks. We have plenty of depth in the midfield, but we need another quality KPP prospect. Going into next season with Pyke, White and Tippo as ruck options is enough. We have Naismith in reserve and we will probably take another Ruckman in the draft. The way I look at it is White plus a number 1 draft pick is better than Mummy plus a number 3 draft pick (assuming that we can get a pick in the teens for Mummy and one in the 40s for Jesse).

We don't know the salary cap situation with certainty, but we should suspect that it's fairly tight. We have to be realistic and find where we can lighten the load and not hurt the team that much. There's only so much quality depth you can carry in the reserves. Players want to play seniors. One way of lightening the cap load is to trade high value players in their prime for promising youth that come in at a lower salary and a bit of patience.

There is the worry that Mummy could walk to GWS for free in the PSD, assuming they finish last.

So the Melbourne/GWS game in a month becomes the battle for the wooden spoon.

If GWS win they should finish ahead of Melbourne and that would help us tremedously in our ability to extract a good trade outcome for Mumford.

If the Tankers in then GWS will finish last and have first pick in the PSD. We'd then be relying on Mumford and his manager to get GWS to do a trade and not force Mummy to the PSD. GWS mid first round pick might be the best we could hope for - and we should trade it on given our poor record with first round picks!

Might be better to try for a player (of which they have a squillion) and a more modest draft pick, the kind we excel with.

We are the ruling premiers. Not surprising that an out of contract player is on the radar with other clubs. I suspect that other clubs will also be vying for his services. If GWS can't afford him then surely other clubs are ready to pounce. Most Melbourne clubs would be keen.

Won't Adelaide be laughing if Mummy pulled a Tippett on us? And probably Caro Wilson too! We wouldn't be getting any sympathy.

I was thinking the same thing.
after reading the comments I opened the link expecting Mumford to be quoted as saying that he is looking to move on.
Just usual speculation about an out of contract player.

I've always been more than satisfied with the Swans' trades, and have no doubt they will make the right decisions in the ruck department no matter which way they head.

In the meantime, we have a grand final to win. I'm expecting Mumford to play a big role.
