I don't think we are in the market for the number one pick. The article was interesting about their need for another defender. Maybe they'd take Grundy for Jaksch. Anyway, besides Davis and Corr, who were mentioned, they also have Mohr, who's pretty good, and young Plowman. So I don't know why they are looking for another tall defender. They've got them coming out of their ears.

I don't think Mummy would command a number 1 draft pick, but something at the back half of the first round would seem right. As for the age bracket, Buddy is only 7 months younger than Mummy, and we know ruckmen age like fine wines.

The thing with Mummy is that he is out of contract and at the peek of his value. He is going to want to get a big contract. It's now or never for him. I'm not sure we are in a position to offer him one with all the big signings we've done lately. The Giants can probably offer him a 2 million 4 year deal. They've go a COLA too.

PS: I hope Reg starts playing well again so we can stop bagging him. He's a rare and valuable commodity and we really need him.

Such a well researched article. (Whats the emoticon for sarcasm?)

When we were on the ropes in the early 90's. Kevin Sheedy was probably the worst of the predators picking over our carcass.
And now he thinks trades should be win-win, what a hypercrital @@@@

If we got Pick #1 this draft the AFL fan base will implode

I actually find all of Sheedy's postulating to be highly suspicious.

Am I missing something? For him to claim the number one draft pick as being in the bag for GWS is tantamount to tanking. Last time I looked there were eight or so rounds to go.

Surely GWS would (or should) be aiming to win a couple of those and climb off the bottom of the ladder?

                Yes they would.
But like the Tippett saga, you have to give to get.
And we gave up ~8 players last year to clear room in the cap.

So the merry-go-round would just keep going around.

They'll implode when we get Buddy through free agency.

And the AFL chips in an extra $1m as year in ambassadorial payments...
