I'm confident , however if we miss, the second chance is there, and keep the routine , more game time for the guys needing it.

I would not be playing Rampe on Gunston, too short and the Hawks have exposed him before, I would play Everitt. Rampe should get Breust or Puopolo. The senior defenders have to make sure he is not playing on Hale or Bayley too, they have been a bit slack on the match ups this year. Teddy & Reg bloody have awareness please.Comment

You realise Rampe was playing at different stages on Roughead, Spangher and Franklin last week, and Everitt had Puopolo. That illustrates how little the coaches care about the supposed height difference between Rampe and Everitt.Comment

Just a few thoughts for those that want to drop Everitt. He had 16 disposals at 93%, gold plated disposal. Mal had just two more at 66%. The inside mids generally are not going to have stats that are over about 65% because a lot of their disposals are blocked in the packs. But Parker got it 19 for 79% and Joey, Ryano & Kizza each got over 25 for over 60%. Birdie was down to 58% for his 24 but still got 24 disposals. By the way I hate the word possessions because it implies the player got the ball that many times when in fact it is a disposal stat not possession stat. Biggs got 18 for 83% efficiency which is gold.
I would think twice at looking to drop players who use the ball so well. Biggs MAYBE due to his inexperience but I would be tempted to give the kid a go. Jetts did not do enough in the Twos to suggest to me he is anywhere near ready and I watched the replay too. He did a couple of good things but his delivery was all over the place and definitely needs work.
Harry needs to go out. Gary rohan needs to do much more, he only got 4 possessions and needs to top 10 to be of value to the team. Laid a couple of good tackles but much more needed. At this stage we can't risk Gary and Jetts in the same team both getting trying to get back to match fitness and form.
Tippett and Smithy will be fit but there is still a doubt on Hannas. Morton, Cunningham and possibly Jack could go but it will be interesting to see if Hannas comes good, he will probably be facing a fitness test.Comment

However to recycle an earlier exchange:
I disagree, not about him going missing, he certainly does that, as I said it's just he seems to go missing more when he's playing a receiver/offensive role more than being given a serious 3rd tall roll. I would have liked to have seen Horse send him to Gunstan last Friday night, perhaps this Friday?Comment

I agree with you about the coaches preferring the shorter (but seemingly more committed) Rampe.
However to recycle an earlier exchange:
I think your 1/2 right, he certainly doesn't have the strength for Hale or Roughy, but then Rampe doesn't have the height. Physicality is in the mind, and his recent lack of it (especially after some good efforts against the Toasters Darling and others) is dare I say it . . . UnSwanlike! As Primmy might observe he too needs to find his "mongrel"

I suggest that the coaches have encouraged Dre to take the game on. I think they like his run and carry, followed by the long kick into the forward line, because he has the tools to take the ball from defence and hit a forward target in a quick transition burst. He's still trying to find the right balance between offence and defence, but is improving. He gets caught out a few times, but so does Mal, but we don't judge Mal so harshly.Comment

Dre is a running player masquerading in a tall man's body, he reminds me of Jason Saddington all over again. There was one marking contest very early on, could even have been the very first mark Hawthorn took in their forward line. The ball went over Dre's head and straight into Hale's arms and Teddy was livid with Everitt for not jumping. We could chalk it down as an isolated incident but it's happened a few times throughout the season. This is not a critique of Everitt per se, I just think we should play him in his best position and not just classify him as a tall defender because he stands 195 cm. He is a terrible one on one defender and I think would struggle more than Rampe over the course of a whole game. Dre's strengths are his running and his long kicking and this is wasted down back.Comment

From the news wires...
Hawthorn small forward Cyril Rioli is in doubt for Friday's AFL
qualifying final against Sydney at the MCG after failing to train
with the main group today.
Rioli missed last week's final-round game, also against Sydney,
with an ankle complaint.
Key forward Lance Franklin trained with the Hawks at Waverley
Park in wet conditions on Thursday but will miss the
first-versus-fourth qualifying final through suspension.

Well I disagree with him lacking speed. He's not in the Rohan, Jetta or Jack(s) class, but I would back him with no hesitation against the rest of our list in a 100m dash.Comment
