White has delivered far more to the Swans than they would have expected for such a low pick. He is on the verge of becoming one of the elite key forwards of the competition.

How come you don't look at first round draft picks like Jed Lamb and Dene Towers and ask you selfs what these players are delivering compared to Jesse White.
A player's draft position is irrelevant when determining their ongoing place in a team / on a list. All that matters is their ability to perform.

I don't see the relevance of bringing Lamb and Towers into the equation. Towers hasn't even been on the list for a year yet, Lamb just around 3. White's been in the system a whole lot longer. The reason why White has frustrated people is because his physical attributes are evident and he tantalises us with glimpses of what he is capable of, but hasn't delivered consistently over a sustained period of time. The last two months have been heartening but don't erase the few seasons of frustration he has caused in the past.

Yep and Whites form falling by the wayside after re-signing for 200k + a season added a lot to the frustration also.

        Fair argument Liz.
I do think that Jesse has taken a bit of time to come good, but now he is ready to dominate the competition! In 2009 we watched him as a second year player dismantle Matthew Scarlett in a game at Homebush which helped earn him that 4 year contract. He has not lived up to everyone's expectations since then, but he is now ready to make a big contribution in the league!

I have not seen any of the reserves games, but what is happening with Towers? He is 23 years old, high draft pick and has seen rookie listed guys such as Rampe, B. Jack, Biggs and X Richards play regular senior football before him! Has be been injured?

Towers spent the year learning how to be a mobile marking forward in the 2's, some ok signs so far, but I'm unsure why we are doing this as I thought we bought him in to provide high speed run from the backline (at least that was his forte in the VFL)

Probably because he was rubbish in that role in the reserves. But I do see your point as I doubt he will be playing the same forward role you've outlined in the seniors.

Dustin Martin: which club wants him? - AFL.com.au

                ... re Sydney it says:

As far as culture and role models go, there couldn't be a better fit for Martin. As mentioned, his father lives in Sydney and that could be a factor in his decision. Do the reigning premiers have the cap space after recruiting key forward Kurt Tippett?

Verdict: Won't have the draft picks so would need to give up a quality player. Possible.

... we could have the cap space by combining the retirements plus trading a quality player. Worth considering. Love to hear the reaction from Eddie.

Someone should put you in handcuffs and give you a flogging for suggesting that.

My apologies to anyone I may have temporarily excited with that mental picture.

It would not be an option for Richmond to straight swap Martin for Mumford as they have Maric and Vickery to fill the ruck positions!

The Swans would not have the salary cap room to accommodate Martin, who is leaving Richmond for a bigger deal.

I would back the Brilliant Swans recruiting staff to find more cost effective gems such as Josh Kennedy, Mike Pyke and Dane Rampe! We also have great rookies such as B. Jack, Biggs and Richards will will continue to develop! The Jesse White signing is important in my opinion.

There will be some big salary cap room in the next three years when Okeefe, Goodes, Richards, Shaw and LRT have retired.

Suggestions are Richmond have "clauses" in the contract that the Martin camp are not happy about, it's not just $ alone. I reckon he is now on a fishing expedition to see what other clubs offer and whether they have a realistic chance of getting the trade done.

He'd probably like to join the reigning premiers but they A) haven't got the salary cap room and B) haven't got the ability to satisfy Wretchmond at the trade table.

Clubs who could get him on A & B are probably only GWS and Roosie's Tankers and would they be attractive to Martin?

Be interesting to see what happens, my bet is he stays at Wretchmond after finding the alternatives unattractive - a bit like Martin himself :-)

                              On next seasons list!

We have 4 rookie elevations who will all be on the senior list in 2014 plus three minimum compulsory selections in the NAB AFL Draft.

We only have three confirmed players retiring! If we don't do any business in the trade and free agency period that means our list would be 42 players.

To get down to 38 players on the list we would have to delist 4 players on the senior list!

How does the thread think we are going to trim our list to 38 (the number we started with this year)

How do all 4 rookies get elevated?

Based on your numbers, we have 38 now. Three leave, so that makes three spaces available.

There will be a few delistings (up to 4 based on the past) so it really isn't as dramatic as you make out.
