    According to the Hun:

The appointment today of Swans veteran Michael O'Loughlin to the post of head of Sydney's football academy - the position formerly held by Paul Roos - is believed to be a key to Franklin's decision.

I just don't see the point of why we really feel the need for Buddy. We'll no doubt lose a few players this year and in the following year or two as we simply won't be able to fit them into our salary cap. I'm talking about our younger guys who will deserve pay rises.

Frankly I don't care how many people are bleating about the COLA if we have indeed gone and done this.

Who will GWS target now? They have a mighty war chest.

Bet they would have loved to know this when considering Dustin Martin.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

You should hear everyone complaining in my office. "How can sydney afford him", "Salary cap cheats", "AFL need to investigate", "It's a disgrace". I love it. Chuckling to myself.

Wow ! It's true ! Your source was right ! We have signed an indigenous premiership player , a goalkicking legend who will do a great job !

One can but wonder , though , exactly why the appointment of Michael O'Loughlin to run the Academy had to be kept secret.

We have some good players coming back from injury but is Sam Reid a forward? Considering his rotten kicking within 40 metres, he kicks anything over that, I would say he needs massive work to become one. I would look at putting him back but that would leave a gap in the forward line at CHF. ...
I think you are running with a old view of Sam's accuracy. Before his injury he was kicking quite well. Nick Davis has come to save us by getting Tippett and Reid to improve their goal kicking markedly. Sam's field kicking was also looking good.

Back on topic, I can't see the reason for going for Buddy, sure he is a great footballer but those possible contract terms could really limit our ability, tradewise, in the future.

It very simple. Get the best player you can each year. It the future we may have lot of money but be on the bottom.

Mummy and white are going going gone we can,t sit still. Sydney needs a team that people will turn up too and watch. Gws and gold coast with there young guns are going to very hard to win against in years to come.

There Two teams now in sydney one market place. The income is very hard to come by. We need a good team and players that people will turn up to watch or the Sydney market drops off very fast.

Now that I think about it, maybe Dermott is right! We have put aside a million dollars in salary cap...because (obviously) our "top four" "incredibly deep" midfield is only being paid about what other teams' midfields are paid. So maybe the really deep questions need to revolve not around whether we pay 9.8% on top of the negotiated rate....but whether our rates for top players (Jack, McVeigh, Goodes, Malceski, Kennedy, Richards) are 9.8% higher than the rates paid to Collingwood's midfield. I suspect not!

Here's another thought....why aren't the media screaming about the fact that the Premiers (Hawthorn!!!) have offered Buddy $1.1 million....or that Fremantle and Carlton (who already have Judd on $1m) were prepared to do the same??? OR that Adelaide offered Tippett $880k or that Essendon spent as much on Goddard as we did on Tippett????? I know this is just too logical for the Melbourne media but sheesh! How can Collingwood afford Cloke, Reid, Brown, Pendlebury, Swan, Shaw?????? It's an outrage - there needs to be an investigation. Hawthorn have had Roughy AND Buddy for 9 years - it's a disgrace! Who's been cooking the books at Glenferrie??????

Shaw will not move to Sydney wants to stay in Melbne. Mummy wants longer contract than his knees will last, simple, he has to go.

Don't you think there is a risk that Buddy's knees might not last for NINE years??

My source is very good. I was actually withholding more The funny thing is that most journos had no idea and thought it was a recent event. This had been going on for awhile. Credit to the Club and Pickering. SEN last night was some of the most entertaining radio I have EVER heard. The complaining was Grade A stuff. Hilarious.

Watch the turnstiles tick over next year. It's a shame Sydney v Hawks will most likely be played at ANZ. A sold out revamped SCG on a Friday night/Saturday night/Sunday arvo would have been EPIC.
