Sorry but I don't necessarily believe all that the club says in relation to the Buddy deal. Of course we have lost a player like Jed because of it. We will lose more over the next few years too.

Its not business as normal. The Swans hierarchy have made some very doubtful decisions recently that may or may not work in the long term. This deal is starting to get a real stench about it to my not-so-finely-attuned sense of smell.

Even taking the Franklin situation out of it, GWS are in a far better position to be offering players like Lamb decent contracts. I think he's a bit of a loss but could we really justify matching their offer? We had a truckload of injuries in the last month and he wasn't in the side. Players like Biggs and Cunningham were.

On Franklin, I think you're underselling him as a footballer. We've lost Mumford and two players who aren't in our best 22, and gained a 26yo key forward who has 580 goals to his name. Surely we're way in front at this stage.

Not directly perhaps, if GWS offered a larger salary that the Swans weren't come close to matching, Buddy or not, but GWS may have had the extra cap space due to not acquiring Franklin.

Exactly Plugger! I know people are disappointed about losing players, but we've also secured one of the biggest names in the game, and arguably on his day, the BEST player in the competition (in terms of ability to take a game by the scruff of the neck)

If people just want the club to plod along, maybe grab a flag once in a while, then that's fine. But I do feel, we have a genuine chance to win at least another flag or two in the next few years.

When your near the top of Everest, you don't just turn around and go down because you might not make it to the top. You shoot for the stars - the signing of Franklin might be a disaster, but it might also be the catalyst for a great period in the Club's history to become the greatest period in our history. It's a risk worth taking - AFL is not a sport where you win games and ultimately Premierships by being risk averse. When an opportunity comes along to get one of the best players in the game, it would be foolish to not explore it and take it.

I acknowledge there is a hell of a lot of risk in the Franklin deal - but I also trust those that have served our club well to continue to serve our club well, and to have taken the best interests of the club at heart during their decision making. In my book, they saw the opportunity to get Franklin as too good to turn down.

A hell of a lot of people die trying to peak Everest when they should have turned around and waited for another day.

Sad to see Jed go but the reality is that he is not best 22 as of round 1 2014.

We will get SFA for him, should send him into the draft to ensure that GWS don't poach another player (as I suggested we consider with Mummy). Plus we don't owe anything to Jed as he had an offer on the table

Buddy kicked 13 goals in a game 18months ago, I remember the days when we'd have been proud of that as a team total! He's kicked 100 in a season! He may never reach those peaks again, let alone what his role is in this structure. But he's the biggest name in the comp, and will excite, put bums on seats and make us cash.

I hope lamb has a great career, but at this stage he's another first round disappointment (yes he was starting to come around, and I liked him!).

Another first round pick that hasn't worked out for us! Pick 44 will probably be a 200 gamer.

I agree on the Buddy part, and Lamb being a bit of a disappointment as well. But he was a very late 1st round pick at 21, and not many that were taken after him that you would say are clearly better (Darling, Howe and our own Luke Partker an AJ come to mind), in what is shaping up as a pretty poor draft year IMO.

GWS have negotiated brilliantly with the PSP number one and out of contact players.

The Swans also gave GWS a free kick by doing a deal with Mumford with so long to go in the trade period! If the Swans had waited until the final day of trade to do the Mumford deal, then GWS would have had no time to line up Jed Lamb up as well. The Swans could have then put pressure on GWS to package them both up for a decent pick or not pick up one or both in the PSD as there may be a better player available than Lamb and Mumford.

Next year teams will not do any deals until the final day with teams who have high picks in the PSD!

It's a bit early to write Jed off, although I understand that it's probably a fair way for some people to justify his loss.

His first year was pretty much a write-off injury wise, and he showed enough this year to indicate that he will likely have a very healthy AFL career. It's a shame to lose him.

I remember many people on here (Hello Annie) talking this way and McHack.
He took a long time to come good, now look at him. BSM, again.

Lack of opportunities might be the real issue.
