We should have let Mummy got to the PSD and take up their 1st pick, then we would have some negotiating power for Lamb.

Our time will come. They will now become our number one target. Any gaps in our list, we'll know where to look for former 1st round draft picks.

I now consider the GSW Giants the Sydney Swans Reserves (Team B).

I think our strategy re trading is not to get too emotional and strive for a fair outcome. Mummy for 35 is not too far off the mark IMO as we should be able to get a replacement for close to that as ruckman are becoming more scarce on lists.

Re Jed, I guess it depends on Dre and how much they want to lock him in. If the Bogans get Dre and Jed then they will have picked up 5 recruits already (plus Shaw, Hunt, Mummy). I would expect they would be keen to land someone else in the PSD and they may only take three draft picks given their depth in youth

"Depth" means - "play in the reserves until we have injuries and need you". The fact that Lamb didn't get a start in finals suggests he was a way down the pecking order (or did I miss that he was injured?) I can see why he decided to get more regular game time (and more money) at GWS.

That's different from Mummy - he not only wanted more money than we wanted to offer but he wanted twice as long a contract as we were prepared to give. He would have gone whether we got Buddy or not.

Jesse is the one we lost because we got Buddy. But at least we did the right thing with him by working towards his first preference - the Pies, rather than Freo. And, although it's sad to see a Swan leave, I hope he gets regular game time at the Pies and finally realises his potential.

I think it is a good idea in the long run to treat your players well when they decide to leave as long as it is a fair deal

It's hard to blame the Big Jesse for leaving. We offered him up publicly as a set of steak knives to Adelaide last year which must have been quite humiliating when they said no. So, pretty unreasonable for anyone to expect him to show any loyalty to us apart from playing his guts out this year which he did to his credit.

I really respect him for showing the resilience to come back from that and get a fat juicy three year deal at the Pies (spit....) which should set him up nicely.

And Heater's a reeeeal bad dude. He's even taken on McBeelzebub. And now poor Jesse, who got a taste of daylight this year, was told that he's got to go back underground next year, and he ain't getting paid either. So Jesse decided it was better to take Heater's place in the slammer.

He's supported here because many of us see him as potentially a very good player! And we're not happy that yet another player is pushed out because of Buddy! And he's worth more than whatever crappy pick we'll take from GWS for him!

Lamb needs to go! Who knows maybe at the Giants he will be given the support to grow into Stevie J that a lot of people say he resembles.

The key players for the Swans next year will be Towers Dick and Membrey. These guys need to step up in their second year and support the draft picks we get this year as a result of turning our list over!

as a forward Towers in my opinion is every bit as good as Lamb and Towers........Towers and Rohan as lethal as mid talls sprinting out on the lead or in the air

Lamb was being groomed as a inside midfielder and lets be honest he is not going dislodge Jack, Kennedy, Macca, ROK, Parker, Mitchell, Birdy etc etc from their inside roles

the other key factor is Brandon Jack has come along in leaps and bounds after only 1 season compared to Lambies 3..........Brandon will demand game time off the bench in the forward line

If u look at who weve let go, its the slower players for their position. The modern game desires speed.

Thats why I dont think we will be hurt by these departures except in the depth department.

Looking after a player vs doing the best for the club
For me we are leaning too far to looking after players who want to leave us after time and effort put into them.
I don't expect any kind of malice or ill feeling, but I also don't expect us to get less than what we want, or is available, for these players.

The Swans are not caving in on Mumford, White and Lamb! Those guys are out of contract and can leave the club for nothing if no deals are done!

I do admire GWS in their work on the Jed Lamb deal. They got Mumford done first for a lower draft pick than his value. Now they still have the 1st pick in the pre season draft and can threaten the same action with Lamb if the Swans don't do a deal! The deal will also be in the GWS favour. Well done GWS is not showing your upfront interest in both Lamb and Mumford. You took the negotiating power away from the Swans and got better outcomes for GWS!

Get it through your skulls people! The loss of Lamb has nothing to do with the acquisition of Franklin. Andrew Ireland said after Mummy's loss that no more players would be moved on to accommodate Franklin. Lamb was offered a contract that had been factored into our plans and GWS offered him more than we thought he was worth. Business as normal.
