I think that it is patently obvious that Hawthorn were the best team of 2012....they weren't the best team on GF day and they weren't the premiers but I think it is churlish to deny this. Kangaroos were not the best team of 1999, Adelaide were not the best team of 1997 or 1998....Hawthorne were not the best team of 2008.....the list goes on and that, for me is the one good thing to come out of Saturday. As a supporter of the AFL in general it is NICE (for a change) for the Premiers to also be clearly the best team of the year and clearly the best team on the day.
$1.4 per year for 5 years for Buddy?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Holy freaking bajoombas! Just read the Neil Cordy article!
Amazing turn of events if the Swans can get Franklin!
I think the lifestyle benefits of the Eastern Sydney Swans could trump Kevin Sheedy's West of the Anzac Bridge team. It's a clear choice between Breakfast Point and Bondi Beach for Buddy!
People were upset about how Kevin Sheedy branded the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants at the start of the year! Don't be upset anymore Swans Supporters!Comment

If however we closely examine Sydney v Hawthorn in 2012, the three games the played each other in clearly show the Swans to be the better team:
Round 5 Tasmania. Swans win by 39 points at what then a graveyard for visiting teams.
Round 22 SCG. A classic clash of the Titans of Season 2012. A very even contest. The Hawks ultimately won, notwithstanding two controversial fourth quarter umpiring decisions: the free kick against O'Keefe in front of goal for Puopola to kick a sitter, (too high for tackling around the waist!!!); and the 50 metre the Swans should have got for Burgoyne throwing away the ball. If Sydney had won that game they would have won the Minor Premiership.
Grand Final: close, but it is universally acknowledged that, even allowing their missed set shots, Hawthorn was not the better side.
And:
1. Sydney comfortably beat Adelaide away from home in the Qualifying Final. Hawthorn just got over the line at home against the same team in the Preliminary.
2. Sydney was able to beat Geelong, Hawthorn wasn't.
3. Sydney had the best defence in the competition, far greater than Hawthorn's.Comment

Makes sense to me!
We've got the midfield covered;
Lose Jesse to....and gain a good backman.
Lose Mummy to whoever.....Mike and Kurt take care of business with LRT as swingman waiting for Neismith to finish cooking.
Gain Buddy to work with Kurt down the pointy end. Membry is a bit away, but not that far. That makes an awful lot of talls up front.
So, where to put Sam......not so good at directing traffic a la Goodsey, so I wonder if he would work as a CHB.
This is intriguing.....who do we moneyball at this point. We have retired backman, middleman and forward, and delisted a tall untried, plus a forward/ruck and a ruck.
We have got a couple of nifty movers on the boil, and I think they would be mad to fritter Perris and Lloyd. X is a long term keeper, and you don't come across specialist backmen at his age very often. They all want to be in the engine room.
So I reckon we moneyball a backman. Whose available? Shaw Jnr?
Talk about a tale of the Brothers. That would make three sets in the team.

Is it smart going down this road with Buddy? Somewhere along the line those big money contracts will hurt us not to mention the intense pressure that will be on the AFL to remove our cost-of-living allowance. I would rather we kept Mummy, look to introduce some key backs through the draft/trade period and really keep that nest egg for someone who would better suit our needs. Our forward line would look ridiculous in the small SCG with both Tippett and Franklin. The question for me is where is Sam Reid in all of this? Does he want to leave? Are we shifting him down back?
A part of me thinks the Tele has made @@@@ up once again, but what's Cordy's access like? Normally our club is water tight.Comment

The Buddy to Swans deal was done the week after last years GF win. Before even GWS came into the picture. Hence why Clarkson went over to Vegas to confront Franklin 10 days after the GF.
I've been told the figure is closer to $1.1m-1.2m a season than $1.4m.
To get Buddy we'll need to trade Mummy and pick up 4-5 kids or elevate rookies such as Rampe, B Jack, X Richards & Lloyd.Comment
