Totally Agree. We always pay 100% of the salary cap which includes the COLA, so whether Franklin is there or not if the COLA was suddenly taken away we would be 9.8% short! Derr!

In terms of Mark Fine, if he did mention bringing the game into disrepute, his beloved Saints would be first in line.

I have no problem with Eddie talking to Nick Reiwoldt or club presidents talking to our players, contracted or not!

We get so emotional over the notion that some person wants to recruit our players. If there is a contract in place it's legally binding!

Lets have an open market place for players and coaches to freely communicate with each other! It may also stop clubs neglecting or taking advantage of good hardworking loyal players or coaches!

Problem is Eddie claims the moral high ground in criticising other clubs, then goes and does the same.

        Class A hypocrite.

There's all this focus on getting Buddy because of our COLA. But when you look at the kind of money Carlton are going to pay Daisy (700k) and Adelaide paying Eddie Betts (500k), it's way over what we would be paying for even better players on our list, COLA or not. I'm sure players like KJ, Macca, JPK are not getting close to what Daisy will be getting. Plus I think Carlton are paying Judd 1.2 mil a year. Carlton are probably paying Judd and Daisy about the same as we are paying Tippett and Buddy, who you would think are better value for money. It's just poor list management on Carlton's part. Now they've got 20% of their cap locked into 2 'past it' players. What does Malthouse do? Take a whack at the COLA, of course.

I've heard the "investigation" is over and no action will be taken to stop the deal going ahead. Can anyone confirm?

According to Trade Radio, that is the case. Hawthorn also unlikely to match the offer...

Ditto the club website. But it is still under review.

Franklin's passage to the Swans is not yet a formality, however, with Keane saying the AFL was "still examining" the offer.

The investigation into this transaction between SS and Franklin is a normal part of all free agency moves, Melb press and trade radio are incorrectly and mischieviously presenting at as a special case for Sydney.AFL statement: Sydney Swans and Lance Franklin - AFL.com.au

My take on Buddy to Sydney...
When the opportunity presented itself to gain arguably the best AFL player (behind Ablett) we grabbed it. Most Swans fans would be delighted, however, I suspect the nine year factor has made many wary. Being a 'restricted free agent' means Hawthorn could potentially Match any offer a rival club makes. I suspect this was in the Swans thinking. They won't and or can't match 9 years. Buddy (like him or not) will bring more people through the gates, grab headlines (look at this week as an example) and therefore generate more $$$. On field, imagine a fwd line of Buddy, Goodes and or Tippet / Reid. I suspect Tippet will play more in the ruck and rest forward and Reid may possibly move to CHB where we need another mobile tall defender. Apparently our reserves ruck man Naismith has shown plenty of promise for a couple of years now and may get a senior opportunity in 2014. With Free Agency it was only a matter of time before this type of long term contract, high $$$ value was put forward. Interestingly though the Lions mid 1990s offered Lynch a 10 year contract, so we are not the first. In my view...good decision by the Swans! Our premiership is well and truly open and we have a good chance of a premiership or 2 in the next 5 years. If this happens, we are geniuses getting Buddy, however, there is always risk. He could get a serious long term injury and or we lose some good young players in the coming seasons due to much of our salary cap being allocated to Buddy & Tippet. Who knows what will happen but wow there will some exciting moments at the SCG for the next hopefully 9 years! Go Swannies!

I was listening to Sports Tonight on 2UE tonight and they were talking about the deal. They said that they had heard that Demitriou has not made a public comment about the deal.

Apparently the AFL HQ is livid that he has gone to the Swans. They had planned for him to go to GWS and thus boost their supporter base. So the worse thing happens and he's gone to the Swans.

They thought that the AFL might try to do something by means of the contract length to force the Swans into either having to trade picks/players so that every one in Melbourne sees it as being more fair.

No one can force him to go to GWS unless the AFL do something out of the ordinary and offer him a significant amount of money on top of what GWS will give him to go there. That still might not be enough though.

Having Mummy go has helped slightly but you would need someone of equal crowd pulling capacity go to GWS to make up for the glitch and I don't think there is anyone that could do that.
