He may be one of the better performed State League Key Defenders but he is a reasonably limited player who would be on his 3rd chance at AFL level
Tippett may be on his third chance but he like many mature age KPP draftees of the recent past have matured late, take Pods.. he was drafted by Suns and played two games before being delisted and venturing to SA and playing FB for West Adelaide. He did this to try to advance his chances of being drafted.

I think Tippett is worth a shot as he has proved himself at a good level in the SANFL. Reg knows that league very well. The SANFL is second only to the VFL.

i read the other day the pods was actually drafted by collingwood back the early 00s but they delisted him pretty soon after.

What are the chances we won't draft anyone mentioned in this thread? Anyone want to give me odds?

I wonder if the Swans are contemplating drafting Nathan Gordon back with one of our later picks. Given our relative lack of experienced depth, he would provide a body with the size, strength and endurance to play senior footy in 2014. He was sufficiently well thought of to play a senior game for us a couple of years ago, before stagnating a little in 2012. He's had an excellent season in the SANFL, by all reports, and no doubt he'll have learnt stuff he mightn't have in the NEAFL.

He also potentially fills a bit of a need for us, going into 2014, namely a medium sized forward line player who is a strong overhead mark and can tackle. I've been watching a few replays in the off-season and have come to the conclusion we might miss Jude a bit more next year than I had reckoned on. Sure, he was well down on the productivity of his earlier career, but he was still a very important contributor in our forward line, both at ground level and in the air. I think Parker has the attributes to fill this role, but I believe we need him to play a predominantly midfield role if we're to close the gap on teams like Hawthorn, Freo and Geelong, where our midfield was a bit shown up in 2013. Jack may have something to offer as a nippy smaller forward, but overhead marking isn't his forte. Harry is another, and he is a better overhead mark than Jack, but he'd not in the class of Nipper in that respect.

Pick 53 is getting a fair way into the twlighlight zone if reports about the depth in this years draft pool have currency. This is where someone like Gordon could be looked at, we already know what he is all about and what he has to offer, had a very good year in the SANFL. A better player now than when he got delisted in all likelyhood who could play a role very effectively if we get injuries. Would slot back into Sydney life seamlessly, no getting to know the city, accommodation, players, officials, surrounds etc, can just go straight to work.

Something on the AFL website with the latest draft order has us using pick 53 as a "probable rookie upgrade" but I reckon that can't be true, only Biggs would be in line for an upgrade and I reckon they'd prefer he has a third year on the rookie list before making an upgrade decision.

Agree Jude will be missed, knowing the result, those replays of the season allow you to concetrate on the little things that happened and Jude did plenty of those. I also noted how strong Parker is in marking contests, a great pick at 40, need more of those with picks 32 and 35!

Really!! The VFL better than the SANFL?????? Maybe you stuck in the 1980's when the now AFL was called the VFL. ;-)

If we are looking at Nippa again, we will have competition as he was invited to state screenings (i.e. draft combine) which means a club had to nominate him to be tested. Unless that club was us, which is unlikely since we know what he can do, that means a few clubs are circling.

He actually played his best SANFL football as a forward, filling in for Lewis Johnston of all people as a tall target and kicked bags of 5 and 6 in consecutive weeks. Struggled when LJ came back and he went back into the midfield and only rediscovered some form in the finals

Swans rookie Sam Naismith developed well in 2013 through the NEAFL season
You mean the season where he missed all but the last game of the regular season and 4 games in total?

And I didn't know there were concerns over Pyke's long term fitness as the article stated.

I'll put money on the Demons, via Roos, showing serious interest.

I would agree. I think Nipper deserves another shot, but at the Swans he would be in direct competition with Cunningham and BJ for that forward role. He needs a better chance at landing a starting gig at this stage of his career. It wouldn't be fair to him to stick him back in the ressies.
