I believe Membrey can fill this role in 2014. Big buckets and can tackle as well. I know he lacks the experience you were talking about. But I feel we have a good one here.

        Have is taking Rory Lobb.

Take this with the grain of salt but interesting to see the Suns are tipped to take the Kardashian brothers....

Probably a risk the miniatures will take Lobb before us

I think you will find that Rory will Lobb into our first round pick. Looks a capable backup and big enough as well as young enough to mature into a primary option.

This is over the odds but need to do so to trump GWS who could pick him up in 2nd round. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-11-1...bs-eye-wa-ruck

Second round I'm tipping http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-11-1...ay-on-the-move McStay to slip through

why pick a ruck (young at that) at pick 15. Believe we need to get a bigger bodied mid, a couple picked by Herald Sun after our pick. Maybe a ruck at our second pick.

Big bodied mid covered by kennedy, parker, and probably Membrey if they succeed to transforming him. Even Mitchell looks like filling out to be that type...

Ruck then key back are the needs, a mid prospect maybe, but probably one with speed IMO

Not sure how much of the Lobb prediction is based on seeing that we have a 'hole' in the ruck or based on actual inside information from contacts from within the club. Judging by our draft history, picking a tall KP player early is very rare with Lewis Johnston being the only exception in the past decade and picking a ruckman with our first pick is just unheard of!

Unless Lobb is viewed as the lovehild of Polly Farmer and Dean Cox, I think we would rather take our chances by hoping he is still available with one of our number 30s picks, or if he is snaffled up we can pick up an experienced body to hold the fort as the backup to Pykey.

Would be amusing if the Giants decided they want him so bad they use pick 14!

Yes and how many clubs will be thinking, should have drafted Grundy last year. It is overs, but there will be mids that will slip through to latter picks, there is not enough depth in ruck/ key position to wait for scraps. Happy to hear of a name that is experienced that is available...and Jolly ain't coming home

We need another ruckman, and whoever we pick will almost certainly get some game time next year. Therefore I would have thought we'll pick one (ie Lobb) with our first pick on the expectation that he'll be able to contribute next year. The likelihood of picking someone up later in the draft who can make an impact next year is much smaller...

He needs a better chance at landing a starting gig at this stage of his career. It wouldn't be fair to him to stick him back in the ressies.
Nipper played more as a permanent forward, leading and marking in the NEAFL. So he'd be competing with Rohan (and Morton last year) than Harry & BJ. But your right he does deserve another shot, if only for his outstandingly charming dropping of a certain naughty word on TV.

Because that is the glaring hole in our list and could potentially cost us a flag.

I would have preferred us to trade one in but that did not happen so I see the ND as our only option and if there is any risk of him going in the 20s (which there is) then we need to take him at 15. Would also be happy with Jolly or someone like him for a year but suspect he wants to stay in Melbourne

He's 20 and close to 100 kgs so he must be reasonably close to being ready physically. Would be good to lock in that role long term too. Expect Pyke to start the year and then see Lobb get real game time second half. Along of course with the great white hope, Naismith

The Swans are only going to use pick 15 on Lobb if they see him as a good long term prospect. Anything we get from him in 2014 has to be seen as just a bonus, not the primary reason for getting him. But if they do like him, the risk is a little lower than picking an 18yo ruckman with a high pick. And we have a longer term need for another decent ruck, as well as a short term need, given Pyke's age.
