As cringeworthy as thinking"Sheeds" was going to put GWS on the map for all the right reason, because you know, he is Kevin Sheedy iconic Australian sporting legend..said no one in Sydney. In fact GWS biggest blunder thus farf was hiring Sheedy who has set them back a few years.

The idiots at docklands should have a) listened or maybe consulted in the swans in regards to the sydney market b) watch and learn from the WS Wanderers.

Yeah i am going to hounded down for my victorian comment, but it's true.
I won't be hounding you down on this. You've put it really well and I agree 100%.

Some of the messages on this thread make me think that GWS has made good inroads on setting up a healthy rivalry.

There is no rivalry, a rivalry demands a bit of two way respect and this mutual hatred of each other. Think Eagles and Us. Think the hawks and us.

They think by taking a few of our reserve players and well mummy that we were going to be all bitter, but meh has been the over all reply thus far.

This GWS artificial rivalry is all one way. If anything GWS represent a massive embarrassment to the swans and us fans. watching them unfold has been so cringeworthy. The day they finally beat us i wont walk away thinking "Damn i hate those GWS mongs with such an unhealthy passion..next NEXT TIME!" it will more like "Oh yeah good on them, meh"

If anything they are annoying just like when annoying cashed up bogans moves in next door or in your neighbourhood. You put up wuth them but behind closed door you laugh and then sigh at how cringeworthy they are.

You should have quoted my entire paragraph to give some context.

So it's ok that we're not allowed to play all of our home games at our home ground?

You mean quote the part that it's a disgrace because it doesn't suit you?

For the record, I'll be happy when we are back at the SCG for 11 home games.

Do you honestly believe that there is a rivalry forming with GWS? I dont think so..if anyone no one gives a flying fig about GWS! All my family and friends in Sydney who live out that way laugh at GWS or just dont care at all about the code nor the club.

Heck i have 8 young cousins, all in the age group that the AFL are trying to attract..and none of them wants a bar of AFL nor GWS..all they talk about is western Sydney wanderers. My relos who have never been into attending sport every week let alone getting memberships for teams..all of them are now WSW fanatics and members.

Agreed. The AFL deal is for 3 games in Sydney at ANZ Stadium. The Giants are playing their first game of the season there against us and then, because of the Easter Show, don't get to access Skoda Stadium at all until well into the season. It's understandable that they would like a game there early in the season. Round One against us would sell out. The atmosphere would be great. It's a really good ground to watch footy at. What's not to like?

What's not to like is the fact that we would then have a further 3 x home matches away from our beautifully newly renovated home ground. I would be ok with playing the Giants at Skoda otherwise.

I'd dare to look forward to 2016 or whenever the Homebush contract expires but the AFL could well force a further similar deal upon us.

Probably means we'll have to host another ANZ game

I moved to the Central Coast not long after the NRL had knocked the Central Coast Bears franchise bid on the head and there were a lot of people up here very disgruntled with league as a result, would have been the perfect time and place to start a new AFL team.@
There would then be clear geographical differences between Swans and Giants and a very good chance for a genuine city V coasty rivalry to build. It would also have eliminated what I think is GWS's biggest problem - AFL is a very Aussie game (and please don't anyone put a racist slant on that statement), western Sydneys ethnicity is far more suited to soccer then AFL.

Well all my cousins are ethnics and so is the majority of their friends and they have been craving for a good local non anglo soccer team for years so they could emulate what they see in OS matches, hence why the massive crowds and the atmosphere that has never before been seen in australia at WSW games. The stuff i have seen at a WSW game is the stuff you see in either south america or in europe. And looking at the crowd..you would think you were in either of these two continents.

the truth which everyone knows, that GWS was put there ore for Andy D's KPis and for the massive TV deal from last year. Sure they are hoping to grow the game BUT reality is that in a few years time GWS will be moved. They already have been moved.

                                Sorry Jewels have to disagree.

The Central Coast is league first and then soccer. This is reflected by the number of kids playing in juniors.

There is nowhere on the CC where a team could have a home ground unless one was built and that wasn't going to happen.

The game is growing in Western Sydney especially in the Hills District so the supporters will eventually come. If they got Franklin it would have made a huge difference. Oh no!!! what is that annoying noise in the background??? Oh that's Mathews still whinging about irresponsible deals. As if 5 years for Shaw is any better. DOH!

If anyone else is wondering, Jewels is a big Barry Manilow fan as you can tell from her choice of residence on the Central Coast. The hottest spot north of Lion Island.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.
