2014 First Round Match Swans v GWS

I see that the AFL site is already referring to our first round match for next season against GWS as the 'Battle of the Bridge'. That name really annoys me: firstly because it is based on the false premise that there is a geographic divide in support for the two Sydney teams; and secondly because when anyone refers to 'the Bridge' in Sydney no one thinks of the Anzac Bridge!

i recall that the Swans didn't seen too pleased by this name last year. So how about we think of a suitable alternative? The current tension on drafting for next year should stimulate creativity.

As it is there home game, they can call it what they want. Whenever it's a Swans home game, I think they just call it a Sydney Derby. it irks me too, but GWS are just flexing their "muscle" where they can. We know who holds the big guns though (us)

And because even if there were a geographical divide in support for the two teams, it sure as hell wouldn't start on the other side of the Anzac Bridge, which is barely outside the CBD.

Regardless of what it's called, it will be interesting how many Swans fans take out 3 game GWS memberships to ensure entry into what will obviously be a sellout. My wife has bought one the past few years ($70) giving entry to the first Swans games and a couple of randoms during the year.
Unless you are in the 'GWS is the devil and I refuse to give them my money' camp, there are worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon at the best viewing ground in Sydney cheering for Mummy and Chops...lol.

It really just shows how deluded the muppets at GWS are and their complete lack of relevance to the Sydney marketplace.

It cracks me up that it is now coming out that Buddy was never going to play for those clowns, they were just his smokescreen to play for the best club in the land.

I couldn't care less what they call it. They won't be around long enough for any real rivalry to be established. The next few years of the Bogans' "progress" will be hilarious viewing indeed. Their 2013 average crowd dropped to under 10,000 (about a 10% drop) which would be a lot lower if it weren't for the Swans fans at ANZ for the "derby". I only do Homebush for the Swans under extreme protest as it is so I will not be going out there and putting money in their pocket but I suspect many will (and fair play if they want to). I did go to Skoda on a freebie last year and it is actually not a bad ground.....

I've said it before but I reckon that mob will be ACT based by the end of the decade....

its a ridiculous name, it has no relevance really as most people would think of the harbour bridge...maybe GWS should move the game to north Sydney oval then...the fact they ahvent been able to attract a really big name to their club says a lot...I use to think having 2 teams in Sydney would be a good idea...in all seriousness they should have either based them around the Newcastle or central coast area or in Canberra...

GWS haven't been able to attract a big name which has been their downfall - they were banking on Buddy to get some bums on seats. They will continue to struggle for relevance in a market where few people care for them. The AFL will be spewing that Buddy didn't go there as they would have been thinking he was their best chance of making this experiment work. Now they'll continue to struggle and the AFL will lose a motza on GWS.

If they get to play their home game vs us at Skoda it will be a disgrace. Not only will some fans miss out, it'll mean that we have to play another game against someone else at that dump ANZ Stadium, and therefore lose a game at the updated SCG.

Sorry but this again shows the arrogance and disrespect that victorians have for Sydney. No idea on anything Sydney yet they come in with this swagger and think they know the demographics and make up cringe worthy names like this.

As cringeworthy as thinking"Sheeds" was going to put GWS on the map for all the right reason, because you know, he is Kevin Sheedy iconic Australian sporting legend..said no one in Sydney. In fact GWS biggest blunder thus farf was hiring Sheedy who has set them back a few years.

The idiots at docklands should have a) listened or maybe consulted in the swans in regards to the sydney market b) watch and learn from the WS Wanderers.
