I'd say it was more a case of GWS playing like their life depended on it rather than us playing crappy.

I was pretty shook up after the shock of the loss, AJ's knee and reading all the jizzing by Hawk fans... but now that I've had time to think about it I don't think our situation is that bad. Long season to go. Let's not hit the panic button yet.

The Giants have been very intense before and they'll jump teams this year. We got lazy and complacent. Terrible effort and they'll hopefully be stung into action against Collingwood and beyond.

The Giants are fresh and talented. The additions of Shaw, Mummy, Hunt and Addison really steadied the team. They didn't make many mistakes. They are a solid, tenacious, well drilled group with a lot of budding superstars; some have already arrived.

I didn't really think we played that poorly. Half way through the last qtr we had a 5 point lead, Rowan had an easy shot on goal that hit the post. We led by 7 instead of 12. We hardly had the ball from that point on. Their pressure intensified and we looked tired and they simply overran us. It wasn't supposed to happen that way, but it did. It was a bit reminiscent of the Freo draw last year when we gave up a 27 point lead in the last 10 minutes under a barrage of attacks.

I watched the replay and could not find a single blatant error by Laidler. Every kick that wasn't under intense pressure hit its target. He's not quick, but is a good kick, makes good decisions and knows how to play the game. I think he's only had around 27 senior games. We better get used to him. I don't think we can afford to drop him.

Rampe also played well, IMO. In fact, I thought he was one of our better players. I don't think he deserves the criticism about his kicking. It was pretty good in this game.

The Giants made a point of getting under Buddy's skin, and succeeded. He was hard done by a few times, but that's always happened to Buddy. So there's nothing that he wasn't use to. The fact is that he was underdone for lack of game practice. He didn't present up the field as he usually does and fumbled the ball and dropped marks. I thought he was our worst player on the day.

ROK, sad to say, was useless. He turned the ball over several times with bad kicks and 2 frees against. He didn't lay a tackle. Before the season started I really thought he could play on next year. Now I'm not sure he can get a game this year.

Pyke tired out in the 4th qtr, which was part of the reason for our demise, but otherwise rucked well against Mummy. I thought he had the better of Mummy in the first half, but had little impact around the ground. He too was clearly underdone for lack of match fitness.

I would imagine that both Buddy and Pyke will get stronger after a few more games.

We really need Tippett to get fit and stay fit this year.

I think Towers will get some game time. I'd put him ahead of ROK right now.

I can't see how buddy was the worst. Reid, jetta Rohan, were all anonymous. Mal had it a lot and failed to do much with it often. Anything forward of the ball was a wasteland.

But singling out seems wrong. Their midfield killed ours from about halfway through the second quarter onwards. Our guys tried hard but were out pointed comprehensively.

It was only a matter of time before a team full of top 10 picks gained superiority. Still too early to tell if it is this year but good to lose early and to GWS.

That should wake them up from party mode.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

The fact they ran away with it in the end to win by 32 disappointed me the most - when we had the chance to blow them away early we just wasted it - they were much harder and cleaner than us at the end and we were rattled - next game will be very interesting against the Pies to see how both sides respond

Yep, I could put up with the fact that the Giants stayed in touch on the scoreboard when we were expecting to gradually break away. I could cope with the fact that our midfield was poor and our finishing poorer. I could even have put up with a narrow loss in a see-sawing final term. The utter capitulation in that final term was down right embarrassing, though. Where were the leaders willing to stand up and wrest a modicum of control, or even just competitiveness.

I confess I did what I have never done before in nearly 20 years of watching the Swans and left before the final siren.

We are all kicking ourselves about losing to GWS, but what's to say they won't be the Port Adelaide of 2014. They were very good and will be very strong early in the season before their young bodies tire! Their power forwards were brilliant and Boyd was good in the reserves!

                      yes agree liz

i could not believe how our midfield could not lift in the final qtr - they were over run

We had an opportunity in the 2nd qtr and start of the 3rd to put GWS away and we didnt.......our kick at goal was aweful yet GWS showed that it didnt matter re the conditions

                      BUT

IF GWS can play like they did last night in over half their games they may very well win 7 or 8 games this season

Lastly it is becoming more obvious that Horse is seriously worried about our lack of leg speed hence his strong stance coming into rd 1 and trying to inject McGlynn in the midfield and get Harry up to standard asap

At the moment I'm too traumatised to go back out there and put up with another Collingwood game in a couple of weeks time....

Watch this forum lite up if Buddy, Tippo or another Swans player makes an appearance in Sydney Confidential over the next two weeks!

I think the event invites have been sent Heath Shaw and Mummy.

Watch now as GWS start to make inroads in the glamour market that the Swans and Roosters now control!

God we were woeful. Are all the experts right, are there internal problems at the Swans? I feel like we are going to go from high expectation to embarrassment. Still cannot believe that we lost to them, that we appeared to give up, what happened to the bloods, I fear we have become one paced easy beats. We looked slow and dysfunctional, no cohesion at all.

It's round one. We need to be at our best in august and September. GWS are the best kids in the comp. They are serious talent, who are now stronger, fitter and 6 weeks ahead of us in training. Stop the panic, if you are really swans supporters you have to accept the loss, get over it . No club wins every game. As for buddy, give him a chance to gel with his new team, I have seen him dominate games and will do it again. And fat, how about you all post your photos on here. This forum is a funny read when we lose, as so called supporters, some of you are embarrassing to our club. Loving players one day, bagging them the next. Fact, Rohan, jetty, lrt all coming back from a long way, it was wet, we played a team that will dominate the next decade.
I can't wait to read this when buddy kicks a bag and we go into yet another finals campaign.

Love your optimism, but can't see us playing in September this year. If players like LRT are underdone in round 1 then we are in serious trouble if that is the best we can offer, no depth. Still think we have problems and O'Keefe being dropped is odd. There is more to this.
