Changes for Round 3 V The Crows

Outs. Rohan probably injured, O' Keefe probably finished, Derryx probably suspended.
Ins. Naismith, Brandon Jack and ???????

Oh and I forgot Rhyce Shaw, possibly his worst game ever.

Not sure the changes matter that much..

What we need is a full on, ugly, 4 quarter, win at all costs, performance.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

It would be nice to have Tippett out there next week - we kicked it to him plenty of times tonight...

I thought we were out coached tonight. We bombed the ball forward to very out numbered forwards. Needed to play one on one football tonight. Cunningham and Rohan were very quiet. Reid was our best forward and played most of the game as the spare man in defence. Buddy was good playing on 2-3 players all night with little help by the small forwards.

Off hand, without seeing how things go in the ressies:

          Out: ROK, Shaw, Derickx
          In: Laidler, Towers, Nanny

Not sure if it will make a difference, but at least it's a bit of look to the future.

Only positive from the game is that we have so much room for improvement.

Oh and Derickx sucked imho. I hope he's dropped. What were we thinking recruiting him?

I agree. Horse needs to take a good long look at what he is trying to by peep a winning score.laying Buddy one out with 3 defenders. No wonder we cannot kick a winning score.

I would drop OKeefe, Rohan, Shaw and bring in Jack, Towers and Laidley.

Agree with the above. I would swap Laidler for Shaw after tonight's performance. Shaw needs to find touch and it should be in the 2's rather than the firsts. Rohan also needs to go back to the 2's to gain touch and confidence. ROK only needs 11 more games but tonight he was not good and it
matters when the team is not playing well.

Our forward line has been dysfunctional for quite some time but tonight it was as bad as it gets. Kicking in after a point by senior players also continues to leave you scratching your head.

Did anyone else watch the 'highlights' from was it Friday's or maybe it was Wednesday's, practice? I haven't a clue as to what routines teams normally do at practices but I was somewhat amazed to see the entire bit shown was of the Swans kicking the ball to each other from one end of the field to the other, all uncontested kicking and uncontested marking, up and down the field or round and round almost robotically. Watching it, I couldn't help thinking, this is just what the players do in matches. However, in matches they are mostly kicking under pressure and 75% of the time their team mate is either not standing in that spot or is being heavily marked, Whatever could be the purpose of such a drill? It may go some way to explaining the kicking blindly and almost mindless kicking to opposition players!!

Disagree. I thought Big Tom was actually pretty good and showed more heart than most. I also don't think it was coincidence that the Moose played much better this week when he had a genuine ruckman to work in tandem with. Too early to call after one game of course, but I was pleasantly surprised by his effort among a night of otherwise unpleasant realisations.

I thought Derickx was ok and made contests - he's never gonna be a world beater. But he seemed to me to play his role ok.

Pyke's kicking was poor tonight - he reverted to the round the corner rugby kicks tonight later in the game which generally missed their mark. I'm a big fan of his but he needs to get better if he's our #1 ruck....

Well maybe I'm a bit harsh. I could be wrong. I've tipped like 4 wrong so far this round so my footy brain is pretty much the size of a pea. I guess I just like ranting and screaming a lot.

I'm surprised people are harsh on Shaw's performance though. Thought Shaw had an above average game.

Pyke is an outstanding set-shot though.

Agreed - but his field kicking really let him down and if he's our #1 ruckman, he needs to do better than that....

The thing I don't understand, other than a lack of fitness, is that we ALWAYS used to send someone round the back of pyke for the handball. Now we just get him to kick it slowly over the defenders head. Asking for trouble.

Shaw needs to play we have absolutely no run from behind at the moment. We had three running hbf types and the game has been designed around that. We now barely have one.

I genuinely think we are gone until Tippett comes back. And even then it may be too late. This side has the feel of 2002 to it - playing on the fumes of past performances.

I think rok will get dropped but tbh I can't see who else because I can't see what is in the reserves that comes in. Bjack and towers seem both to be Gary Rohan clones so that's a waste of a resource. Laidler doesn't give you any more run but shouldn't have been dropped in the first place.

The real problems are at the hb line and on the ball.

Although I think they love Rohan as a hff because of his pressure I would play him as a mattner replacement - but you don't do that two weeks into a season.

In short I have no idea how to improve this team because I think the problems are how the team is structured, coach and how the list looks.
