It was a source of discussion on Twitter.

Martin Blake claims Porter is generally pretty good and knows his stuff, but even he conceded that in this case he has had a shocker...

Fast forward 7 year and, what? The Swans, who we didn't take seriously, not only make the grand final, but have the audacity to win against off-season favourites and champion, elite, professional, clinical (every superlative under the sun) media darling Hawthorn! OMG its that fabled 'Bloods Culture' again! How else could they have done it?!?!

To every media twat who feels entitled to speak about our culture and the state of our club let me just say @@@@ you. You don't know who we are, you don't know a thing about us and you certainly don't know what makes us. Frankly, you can take your false concern, condescending disapproval, and whatever agenda that's emboldened you into slandering our club, and shove it right back up the @@@@ hole you emerged from.

That rant has been trapped in me for weeks.
Each to their own I guess, but I quite like that people think they are dealing with the 22 selected plus an intangible. It shows they dont understand, and they're always expecting us to come back into the game, etc.

I like that we're not well understood.

I think a lot of journalists are writing stories about certain teams in order to sound interesting and to try and give meaning to what is essentially a simple concept in football:

?It?s a close competition and someone has to be the loser?

Richmond was highly touted, but lost to the young Western Bulldogs. Port?s running power in legendary, but they were defeated by North Melbourne. Collingwood who were supposed to be weaker this year defeated the Swans and almost defeated Geelong. The Crows despite last quarter fadeouts were level pecking in the 3rd quarter against Geelong, Port and Sydney.
The competition is close and there will always have to be a loser, but the press have certain themes on certain teams such as

          - Swans are being culturally corrupted by Buddy.
          - The Crows are physically unfit.
          - Essendon must be stressed by the ASADA investigation.
          - Does Carlton?s coach still understand modern football?
          - Can?t Brisbane get anyone interstate to stay?
          - Are Melbourne mentally scarred for life?

The simple explanation is that sometimes you just lose to a team of equal ability.

Derickx Hit Outs to Advantage were 39%. The best of all the ruckmen for the day. Swans overall HTA were 27% to Adelaide 17%.

Make of that what you will but I was at the game and loved Derickx work.
Also agree on LRT, his work off the ball is brilliant.

The most important work during a game is done when you don't have the ball. Watching the TV you miss so much of the lead up to good plays.

My favourite from the game was in the final quarter, game was already won. I think it was Lance's last goal (?) We got the ball out of the centre to the wing. Harry ran full tilt from the centre circle to nearly the top of the goal square to help LRT with a screen/block which allowed Lance to lead to the pocket. I checked the replay and the commentators only mentioned a good block from LRT. Harry was the one who made it work and you didn't get to see his run to get there.

              Loved your 'rant' DLBIA14!

Looking at the online Telegraph Sport's page and the Age this morning, not one mention of Buddy or the Swans (except a short report on what Jude had said somewhere re the unfair Melbourne press treatment of the Swans). Maybe there was something on Sunday? If not, suddenly - silence!

Further to my summary a page or two back, I forgot to mention the Adelaide crowd. For a supporter base that's apparently the 19th man, they were off their team quicker than any bunch of fans I've ever heard. Very fickle indeed.

Well, their world revolves around the highs and lows of their beloved Crows , so they would have been inconsolable.

Did anyone see the Victory song on Saturday?? The playing group clearly hates Buddy. They were pouring Powerade all over him and made him stand in the middle of the circle and cop it. Bloody disgraceful.

Rubbish. All three players who had never won for the swans were in the middle. Buddy Derickx and laidler. That's normal

Take your head out of the sand. Their aim was clearly to leave Buddy very uncomfortable and sticky from the Gatorade.

More proof of the Buddy hate was seen on Saturday. When Buddy kicked a goal, McVeigh rushed at him. Buddy put up his hands in defence but McVeigh still struck him hard on the hands. They called it a high five but we all know what it really was...

The sporting media is parochial in every state. Not much about the Broncos or Storm in the SYdney media, and even though Swans have a support base in Melbourne it gets short changed compared with the other Melbourne clubs who drive more traffic to their site.

Ashley Porter is usually reliable - pretty amazing he didn't rate Parker who I also thought was BOG. BIt of a clanger.
On the other hand Mike Rucci is a partisan fool and you can see his bias as a Port supporter come through in his preview. Ashley Porter is also a Port fan from way back but he's also quite fair - you wouldn't spot it from his material.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

It was a disgraceful display - they purposefully got it all in his hair and in his beard. The poor kid can hardly afford to go out and buy another bottle of Pantene to clear up the mess.

                                The Real Value of Buddy

He had a great game, and I was glad to get the view of those who saw LRT's assistance.
And in addition to his speed, power and general presence on the ground, add his accurate field kicking, perhaps a legacy of his time at Hawthorn. I hope some of that rubs off on his new team mates.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
