Changes for Round 4 versus Kangaroos

Does anyone else get the feeling McVeigh may get a week for his innocuous bump on Jaench(sp), for which he was reported?

    If so, who comes in?

    Probably Bird.

And if Reid comes back in?

    Probably Derrickx.

I can't see them leaving LRT out, he does so much good stuff off the ball...ie Blocking, shepherding, creating space.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

    If Macca out, Bird in;
If Reid in, Laidler out, LRT to swing.
I think Derrickx needs to persevered with and given as much game time as possible, and I certainly don't want Reid in the ruck, nor LRT. I thought Laidler was pretty good?meshing in a bit better with the back 6, so he would be unlucky.

The worry for him is twofold - he has 45 carryover points so even the most minor offence would rip him over, and the pattern this year is any head contact is an issue with the MRP

My own view is it was so innocuous as to be irrelevant but not sure it'll be treated that way

I saw Reid walking down Coogee Bay Road last night. He did not appear to be limping, and was walking at a reasonable pace. I did not ask him how he was going out of respect for the privacy of Sydney Swans players enjoy in Sydney.

Not sure if Reid will be back this week, but if available I would play him up forward, keep Tom D in the side as a backup ruck, and move LRT to the backline in place of Laidler.

I would move Tom Mitchell to sub and start Rohan. You have to rotate your sub otherwise they don?t play enough football. Tom Mitchell?s early season form is a concern.

I would bring in Bird (if ready) for McVeigh (if suspended). If Bird is not ready, it?s time to give Towers his chance.

So if Macca escapes suspension and Bird is fit, does Bird miss? Or does he come in for ROK? Mitchell? Parker? (only joking on that last one...)

If Reid is fit, who does he replace? I agree with ORB that Laidler might make way but he was pretty good. LRT is the closest like-for-like swap but his competitiveness and versatility must make him an appealing player to have in the team for the coaches, especially with Petrie to defend against this week.

This week showed the value of having the pace of Cunningham, Jetta and Rohan to run onto the ball. Even if their stats look modest at times, I think Longmire will be reluctant to cut back on this pace.

Another consideration is that North have two players - Harvey and Wells - who have a significant impact on North's game. Each can be shut down, and if you do, North generally look worse. They are probably less reliant on these two now than in past seasons, but they still deserve a bit of attention. Dal Santo is another worthy of a bit of defensive work. McGlynn will unquestionably take one of Wells or Harvey. I imagine Bird's defensive experience might also play in his favour, if he is fit.

Longmire just said that Reid will miss a few more weeks which isn't good news..

Hard to see any changes as I doubt McVeigh will get suspended. I think if bird is fit to play he may get a run around in the ressies before coming back into the seniors after playing as the sub against the pies.

I agree. No change unless McVeigh is suspended or there's a training injury. What's the latest on the expected return of KT?

Is Tippett in the mix this week? He & Tommy W started competitive work last week and are training with the main group so it couldn't be too long before they both get a run somewhere.

This is one game when Shaw must play, because although I have been critical of his delivery (and I defer to people who've said he should be allowed time to get his mojo back) he has a very good record against Boomer, who simply has to be stopped.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think he got good then got bad again during the pre-season, IIRC

If Macca gets charged, then there is something seriously wrong with the system. His feet were on the ground. He braced himself and was run into by the oncoming player, who just took a graze on the chin, with most of the impact being shoulder on shoulder. Macca did not initiate contact. But then again, who knows how the system works.

On the other hand, Lindsay Thomas made contact to the head with a swinging arm reminiscent of what got McGlynn 3 weeks suspension last year.

With Reid still out, hard to see many changes. ROK could find a role this week in trying lock down Cunnington, who get plenty of the ball, but is almost as slow as Ryan. Could be a good matchup that may work in our favour.
