Well-earned reward for one and bit years of incredibly consistent NEAFL football by young Lloyd.
Edit: I've just seen that Mitchell is injured. So maybe he won't having much fun.Comment

?Tommy Mitchell?s had a crook ankle for a couple of weeks, so he goes out of the team,? Longmire said.
It's the kid's third season on the list. Second playing actual footy. And we rate him highly enough to risk him injured? Wow.
Edit: and they've played Rohan knowing he might not be able to run out games. Jeez.Last edited by R-1; 17 April 2014, 06:55 PM.Comment

Why keep Bo D, he is not up to it. Would have promoted Nankervis for him. Cant see why Membrey could not be added to give Buddy some help.
Bo will get thrashed by Freo rucks and be of no help to Pykie. Again the selectors seem to be found wanting. No gripes with Lloyd deserves a chance in place of GR. Bird for Okeefe no arguments maybe TM istead of BJ for Mitch.Comment

I don't mind the changes except i too would not have kept playing Bo D. I can't understand that choice. I'm also confused with the lack of forward key position players. Yes I know Reid and Tippett are injured and coming back in tippets case but the selection committee haven't seemed to try to pick like for like. The problem will be that if and when KT Reid and franklin all play in that same forward line the midfield won't be used to that structure. Mm not sureComment

So that's one good change, Lloyd looks a player of the future, about time he got a senior game but fear he will be green vested. Don't think it will be too long before Biggs is elevated as well.
BJ really needs to step up, it appears his form has been moderate in the ressies. Bird for ROK is an improvement on what ROK has delivered so far.
Ressies with Tippett and Rohan playing will be interesting. Hope Tom Mitchells injury improves as he is a gun when right and been down on fom this year.Comment

I'll have a crack at it if that's ok. Great question btw. Firstly, the Swans haven't had a draft pick in the top 5 for many years. Those guys are generally (but not always) stand-outs and will make it regardless. Outside of that, you really are taking a punt at how a draft pick will mature and when. Rookies aren't necessarily inferior players, it's just that at the time the draftees were identified and put through the system, they weren't at that level for whatever reason. Some have come from other sports or other countries, and some have come from other leagues and are a couple of years older, which means that their bodies are more mature and more able to withstand the rigors of senior footy.
Our draft picks in recent years have tended to be players who needed time to develop. Luke Parker and AJ were notable exceptions to that but they were both lower picks, which is significant IMO. In summary, it's not an exact science when you draft someone. Rookies are often someone that you have seen more of and have a fair idea of what you're going to get.Comment

I'm just saying I don't think he would do any worse than Derrickx or LRT. Neither of these two could get a kick in an Electricity Plant the way they are going.Comment

That's a fair call about derricks but I can't quite agree about lrt. Yes he may not be up to ruck duties but he played well in Adelaide and he always gives 100%. As has been said many times a lot of what he does is not represented in stats.Comment

I'm hoping Ludwig or Ugg or others can help me out with the following question.
How come when the Swans are looking to promote players to the seniors we are always at our rookie list?
Aren't rookie listed players supposed to be inferior to senior listed players?
List year we played Rampe, X Richards, Biggs and B. Jack who were rookie listed players at the start of 2013. This year people are talking about Biggs, Naismith and Lloyd from the rookie list.
What is wrong with senior listed recent draftees like Jordan Locklear, Harrison Marsh, Towers and Brad Dick who have been on the Swans list for at least a year? Why are rookies constantly outplaying them in the reserves last year and again this year?
Zac jones, Toby, Aliir & George Hewett will all be good in time. Hewett is proving to be a pretty good player already with 30 possessions last week in 70 mins.
I think there will be a clean out next year with players being asked to retire and others delisted;
Shaw, LRT, Goodes, ROK all retired. Dick, Lockyer & Marsh delisted unless they do something extraordinary. Maybe Membrey too.Comment
