Don't want them all in the F50. I want Buddy and Reid leading up to the wings, dragging defenders out of the F50, and leaving KT in one-on-ones?ideally against the number 2 or 3 defender (!)?closer to the goal square. Number 37, as far as I'm concerned, can do whatever he wants, although I do like it when he sets himself up behind stoppages in the attacking half of the ground, rather than working as a forward target. And we need to go one on one when the opposition tries to set up the loose behind the ball to make sure there is space for Tippett to lead to. Can't wait.Comment

I agree, let's get the 4 points for this week and then worry about next week both games give the same number of points for a win.Comment

Goodes has always been a player with lots of latitude to roam and plays his best footy that way. Reid can control the 50 to the centre and almost to CHB. The two players I want kicking my 50-60 metre goals are Buddy or Sammy. Young Lloydy is not too bad either. Sammy is also a good link up out of the backline and then tip need not even leave the forwardline. Better structure that way.Comment

But wouldn't that mean that we would be committed to a Lloyd upgrade for another 8 weeks, to the exclusion of others, such as Biggs? I thought we might want to give Biggs another run sometime.Comment
-
With Shaws return to form the past 2 weeks, along with Rampe stepping up and Mal going along nicely , there isn't exactly a need for Biggs just at the moment I wouldn't have thought. Plus we know Maccas can go back if one of them goes down.Comment

In; Reid, Tippett, Mitchell, Membrey or BJ & Biggs.
Out; Macca, Kizza, Buddy, Jetts & LRT.
The fact is buddy will probably play but I would like to see Kizza, Jetts & Macca right for the Hawks game and playing them against Brisbane is not going to get them right. If those replacements are not enough to beat Brisbane I would ber very surprised.

Well smartie tell the bloke who keeps saying Lloyd will have to go back to the twos because Tommy Walsh is coming back. He doesn't because of AJ's injury and he is on the long term injury list. Just thought I'd point out to the fella we do have long term injuries as he didn't seem to know.Comment

It's an interesting selection conundrum....
Bring in -Tippett, Reid, Goodes and possibly Mitchell...All are coming back from injury and will be, to differing levels, underdone.
Do they bring them all back at once, in an attempt to find some cohesion ahead of the big games following Brisbane...
Or do they stagger their returns, so not to have them all coming back trying to find, the pace of the game, personal form,
teamwork etc, at the same time..
Adding to the already injured players McVeigh, Jack, Franklin. All of whom looked pretty ordinary post game last week.
Also, with no obvious replacement for Derrickx...No obvious player for Mitchell to replace.
This is one of those weeks where selections will be fascinating.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

I didn't say that though.
The point I was trying to make is that the Swans aren't in any position to let the Hawks game have any influence over selection for the Lions game. We need the win over the Lions before any other consideration. If the coaching and medical staff think there is a chance of further injury to any player because of niggles they are carrying then that player is injured and goes on the injured list, they don't get rested just because we're playing a premiership contender the week after.Comment

McVeigh & Jack won't be rested - captains don't get rested end of story!
McVeigh seemed fine throughout the match and has been playing reasonably well all season. A little hobble in the second half and some are crying out for the skip to have a rest. Give me a spell - it's AFL football not the Australian cricket team under Micky Arthur. McVeigh has earnt the respect of his fellow players & captains by his leadership, longevity & toughness. McVeigh will have to break a leg before agreeing to be rested. HE WILL PLAY.
As for K Jack, see above. No doubt he has some back/rib issues however each week he seems to be getting better and running extra kms. Also pretty sure Dad would not let him come over for dinner if he missed with a minor rib complaint...
The Bud should let the knee rest up for a week if Tippo & Reid are right to go. Let 'em all loose - Bud, Tippo, the great man & Reidy - against the Hawks next game.
I'd also seriously consider Membrey as the medium sized small as ROK is just about goooooooooorrrrnnn, unfortunately, and McGlynn is playing more of a midfield role.Comment

Speculating about changes based on form is one thing, but trying to outguess the medical and training staff about who is fit enough to play is bit difficult. It's easy to second guess these folks when things go wrong, like when Reid went down after only a few minutes in his first game back from a quad injury, but in the end, we fans are simply not in a position to know better than the experts.
I think we have a doctor or 2 on RWO, so perhaps we could arrange for a RWO medical examination of the players so we can be knowledgeable when speculating about selection.Comment
-
I'm sure we have a glut of female "doctors" on RWO ready to sacrifice their time to conduct thorough examinations each week...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

It's rare that I comment on changes simply because I'm not privy to the medical condition, training performance and general attitude off the field of the players. Not criticising others who like to speculate on these things, it's just my personal preference.
However I am mystified by Membrey not being given a game since Buddy has been pretty much Robinson Crusoe in the forward line this year. There must be something I'm missing. He's a big talented guy who would have provided Buddy some valuable assistance until the reinforcements arrived...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors.
