Definitely filling a role until Hird returns.
have to winder if the Bombers have made the correct call in elevating him.
No doubt in my mind that if Hird doesn't return for whatever reason, that the Bombers will be looking for a new coach other then Thompson...
He is very obviously at a stage of his career that he does not want to be where he is at. I can't blame him for feeling that way. He joined Hird to have a quieter low stress life. It's all turned out differently for everyone. He still remembers the great Essendon club under Kevin Sheedy and that's evaporating in front of his eyes.

He is a great coach and looks like he is a nice guy. He build the most formidable team in the AFL over the last decade and that should never be overlooked.

Another great win. Another lot of posters being overly critical.

JPK was simply majestic last night.

That's all I need to say.

Don't give up on the champ just yet. Agree that he was concerningly quiet last night, but that's how he's been for the cake walks over the last few years - just steps aside and let's the younger players do their thing. He wasn't non-existent and would have benefited from another run around the park and a bit if a hit out. The Geelong game will tell us a lot more.

i just couldnt believe how much leaner Stanton and Watson appeared compared to the previous two seasons

Kennedy is a marvel to watch in the stoppages......i must say i can not believe how well he reads the angles and executes in traffic ...........but the blocking of space by Essendon was appalling - they did not limit the movement of JPK at all !

And to think ge is still so young - a 300+ gamer to go with hanners id like to think

If Parker played for Geelong or Hawthorn the Melb press would compare him at the same age to some of the best at the same age...........he is the type of footballer every supporter, player, coach and media person loves watching in a team........hard but can kick goals........when a player such as Parkers plays in a top Melb team they appear to rise in the media's calling of the game and in reporting also.

I noticed this, too. At one stage in the last quarter Buddy took a mark on the lead and Hurley's shoulders just slumped like he was a beaten man and had no answer. He looked like he was well and truly over it. I guess he isnt the first backman Buddy has made feel that way.

Quite a few Bomber supporters around me were very average. I think I dislike them more than most teams. Booing Goodes. According to the brainiacs the umpires missed about 500 free kicks. Then the disgusting booing when the umpire went down. Puts you off going to the footy unfortunately.

Adam always gets booed in Melbourne. Has for years and not only from Ess fans.

You have to feel sorry for the Bombers fans. They are watching their great club sink before their eyes

They have not had a great list since 2002, and there hero who was going to lead them back to the promised land is not there at the moment.

There is also the speculation on what more is to come.

The saddest issues that the Swans have had to deal with in 2014 is Alex Johnson's injury and ROKs decline. Our worries as fans are very small compared to the Don's fans!

Woke up feeling really good this morning (surprise, surprise). Watched a replay when I got back from the game last night. From high up in the stands you do get a good perspective on how much gut running blokes like JPK, Hanners and Kizza do. Even Jets. The boys worked so hard off the ball last night. Defensive and offensive pressure was first rate.

I also noted how valuable having Tippet and Buddy in the same forward line is. Bombers' defence (even Fletcher) was constantly confused about who to go to and there was very little double-teaming. Kurt was well held in the first half but no defensive unit can keep it up for four quarters. Best man on Tippet freed up Buddy and vice-versa in the second half.

With a short injury list, we are looking ominous and the whingers are flooding Twitter etc. with their dissent at our so-called unfair advantage. You can see plenty of improvement on last night's performance, so if we stay healthy, sit back and enjoy the ride. Should be premiership favourites, for mine.

just a note on the Goodes booing. I was sitting level 1 in the Essendon Members section (borrowed a ticket. Didn't want to pay $40 under my membership) The booing started as Goodes received some pretty lucky free kicks on the back of us getting some very favourable umpiring for the first quarter. Goodes played for the free which led to the 50m
penalty. The booing continued on the throughout after that.

On Tommy D - He was bought in as insurance for Pyke and will go out once Pyke regains fitness. Fantastic that he is doing such an admirable job but he is a backup to a Premiership ruckman

                            WHAT a shocker.

A section of the crowd at last night?s Essendon v Sydney game booed a concussed umpire as he was stretchered off the field by medical staff.

The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Im giving Kudos to the user rated defence. Again kept the bombers to less than 10 goals.
Pat on the back to Ted, Reg, Rampe, Smooch, Mal and Laidler.

Bird also what a game he played.

The booing is relatively clear on the AFL's 'highlights' on their website. Not that they are really highlights - basically seems to be almost solely only bombers goals in the second half lol - on the selection of goals picked, you would of thought the Bombers killed us!
