Stella, it was rather a matter of the Port losing, rather than the Swans winning this game. The excitement and the tension at the ground is totally drowned out by the commentators. They missed stuff even I picked up. they picked on things that didn't exist. Criticism. No joy or enjoyment of the game itself. Shame really.

Both teams worked their arses off, and the 1% as pointed out, made the difference, and the fact that not once did I see a Swans player drop away for more than a moment. Out on their feet, but they did it, with a lame duck and an injured ankle, and a ruckman with 13 games under his belt, and any number of inexperienced blokes at the start of their careers

Should I mention the visuals? Dear lord, poor quality, and I have been jumping up and down about Seven's feed! Camera work compounded by low grade Definition couldn't keep up with the speed of the game, nor could the commentators.

You just had to be there.

I was! I completely agree, it didn't carry the excitement of the ground over well at all- listening to the commentators I was surprised at how pro Port they seemed. I'm pretty Dwayne even took a dig at the crowd early on along the lines of "they had hopes of a sell out, but still some empty seats".

Yeah, you did, but Dwayne wasn't in the box, so we can't blame him. I think it was that ex North bloke.

In watching the highlights it was amazing the amount go great goals that were needed to keep ahead in the game:

- Adam Goodes left foot from the boundary.
- Lewis Jetta's outside 50m bomb.
- Jarrod McVeigh's snap.
- Buddys three last quarter bombs from outside 50m.

Port kept up miraculous pressure and we just had a little bit off top level class from the above players that won the game.

Port are seriously threatening as a well drilled football team of very strong players, but only have Chad Winguard who is the Buddy class above the rest.

Make that 'two that count'. We were beaten in nearly every stat except 1%ers and the scoreboard. What did Horse say? "you don't need to be a star to win just prepared to put in effort & pressure".

1% ers and pressure acts have been the way that our swans have stayed in games moat clubs would end up losing for years. They helped win us a flag in 12, and we need them to be part of our tilt this year if we are to win in september.

I really think that the coaching staff needs to address our wayward kicking at goals, especially when we dominating our opposition. This happened yesterday as well. In the first half we kept Port close because of our poor kicking at goals, which gave Port more psychological incentives to go harder at us. We also knew that Port normally finishes strong in the last quarter, so we were very lucky to get away with 4 points.

You'd be probably the only AFL fan who doesn't enjoy watching Port play. Horrible to watch ? Absolutely shocking call, they are as entertaining as it gets! Do you prefer watching Melbourne play ?

I thought Rohan's contribution was decent given he came on into the final quarter and was largely parked in the forward line where the ball didn't go that much (other than when Buddy was kicking it from outside 50m). He had one one-on-one contest where he was clearly pulled off the ball as he was going to mark it, and did plenty of chasing and hassling. I think it was one of the better 'nil possessions' games a player is likely to play.

As to the rest, it reminded me a little of the Carlton final a few years back at ANZ. In both games the Swans looked completely exhausted at the start of the final quarter and it looked like they were going to get run over. But enough players dug deep to hang on by their finger nails, and a few bits of individual brilliance was enough to get the job done.

They say teams learn more when they lose than when they win. But the Swans will have learned plenty from that game that they will need to take into the next encounter against Port. Port were far more effective at keeping our main ball-winners quiet than we were at nullifying theirs.

That was ONE more scoring shot.

We deserved the win. The boys worked their arses off. The ground was dead under foot, and many of the missed goals were caused by pressure, from both sides.

We won because they never gave up.

PS: I don't suppose Robbie Gray is coming off contract any time soon?? Rather rate him.
