I think Rohan needs a full game to assess him before we give up on him for this year. Hanners was on tele this morning. He said scans tomorrow but I got the impression from the way he spoke that he didn't think it was too bad.

On the ruckman issue I reckon we get 3/4 of a game out of Pyke or Tom. I just don't think against the better teams we can afford to have the equivalent of one quarter where we don't have an effective ruckman. I'm not sure when Tippett comes back he should be risked rucking and as well as Sammy Reid has been playing he's not a ruckmans backside.
So the logical solution is to play both, at least for a few games to see how it works.

I think it's important to manage Josh Kennedy through this period and not totally over cook him. Lloyd will need to spend more time in the heart of the midfield. I believe he is now ready to take on more responsibility.
Bird and Parker have been spending a lot more time in the middle, Birds rise this year has been especially impressive IMO. Never thought he'd be capable of the footy he is producing at the moment. This should ease Joeys load a little.

Out: Derickx, Hannebery (inj), BJ, Laidler
In: Pyke, Nankervis, Membrey, Jones (sub)

I agree with Ampersand that after 5 good opponents we could have a mental letdown. A good way to counteract that is to bring a few fresh faces into the side.

For me, the most important change is to drop Tom Derickx. He hardly competed for half the game. We will be up against an underdone Maric and a Derickxesque Hampson. I feel Pyke and Nanko can handle them okay. The Giants the following week will be a much tougher ruck challenge. We need to get these guys some game time before Tippett comes back and Nanko will have to go back to the reserves.

I'm not worried about bringing in a couple of new players to the forward line as Goodes will tell them where to go. Membrey seems a clever player and I think he was the captain of his junior club. It's his second year in the system as well.

I would like to try a little restructure down back, with Reid playing back instead of ruck/forward. Also thought Rohan could play in defence as well; I would like to see either Rohan or Rampe (maybe both at different times) put a hard tag on Dusty. Laidler gets forced out with this equation, as I don't see the point of having him as the sub. Jones will bring some energy late in the game.

                  I'd leave Rohan in.
Pyke back, and Derrickx out - the time has come.

Larkins said he'd spoken to someone at the club. He's definitely prone to hyperbole though so let's hope his 4-6 diagnosis is something more like 1-2.

If Hanners misses I think they'll definitely bring in ROK. Which will help around the stoppages.

But IMO Joey doesn't need "managing"...he's played nearly every game thee past 4 seasons and has done his best work in the latter rounds and the finals. Just let him keep doing what he's doing.

Lloyd has played less than 10 games. He needs to keep playing the same role, which he's doing well.

Thanks, I think that information went in one ear and out somewhere else without lodging in my brain.

Should have a good team coming back for GWS

I don't think we should go back to the old well now that we have a few injuries. We can get through the next 4 games while introducing a few of our better performing younger players into the side. I think it's important that we take this hiatus in the tough part of the schedule to build some depth into the team. There were some concerns that if Membrey didn't get a senior game he would look elsewhere for next season. Well, now is a good time to give him his chance. He's earned it and we can use another forward.

We saw by the underdog wins of WB and Melbourne that it's really the mental attitude that you bring to the game that counts the most. I've got no doubt that the side below can easily handle Richmond. Remember, they are on a 6 day break as well.

Pretty much agree, Ludwig. I think there are legitimate concerns about Pyke's ability to run out four quarters of rucking. Perhaps Nankervis would be a good replacement for Tippett rather than Membrey as he has a similar build to Tippett and can chop out for Pyke in the ruck.

If they keep Rohan in, then surely it has to be a 'last hurrah', give him a chance to start and say 'you have to show us why you should be in the 22'.

Sorry Ludwig, I can't see it happening.

There's no way Horse and co, who are notoriously conservative at the selection table, will go in with 3 first gamers in the same match...

It's not particularly what I want to see, but I reckon ROK is a sure thing, as is Pyke at FF, maybe Zak Jones will get a run in the vest.

What I think they'll do (assuming no other injuries):

                                OUT : Hanners, Rohan
                                IN : ROK, Pyke
                                BJ as sub...or maybe Jones

                                What I'd like :

                                OUT : Hanners, BJ
IN : Pyke, Jones ( as sub)
Rohan to get a full game.
