Correct me if I am wrong but they played together earlier in the year (albeit with Tippet not available, I think).

It's pretty hard carrying 2 players not having an influence around the ground, let alone 1. I think Derickx is playing at the top of his game; what you see is what you get. Although Pyke was really poor, his ruckwork was a bit better and hopefully he can play back into form.

If Derickx is dropped and none of the injured players return, then I think the 2 replacement are likely to come from the emergencies from last week. So perhaps 2 from Rohan, Nanka and Membrey. I think Nanka should be one of them as Reid may have to play back if GWS go with all of Patton, Cameron and Boyd. All are too big for Laidler to handler IMO.

I think it will be Membrey in for Tom D and Mglynn in for Shaw. Not sure Tippett will come up this week.

I would get Pyke to go with Mumford the whole day and get Reid to fill in when Patten and Boyd goes into the ruck.

If Buddy, Reid, Membrey and Goodes can get on top in the forward line, GWS will send Patten down back to plug the space, which will leave one key forward less for the defence to worry about.

            I think we'll see a few changes.

            position by position...

            In: McGlynn
            Out: Lloyd

            In: Rohan
            out: Shaw

            In: Tippett (or Membrey)
            Out: Derickx

Rohan has been trained specifically as a running defender, so it would be very odd if he wasnt a straight swap with Shaw. The others are form or structure based.

Lloyd is a funny one at the selection table this week. I said that I wouldn't watch the replay, but finally caved in and watched the last 3 qtrs. Lloyd was out of the scene nearly the whole game, but it seemed that his role was to cover the open space away from the ball. He was often tagged by Steve Morris when we had the ball. So the fact that the ball wasn't in his court that much may be a sign that he was playing his role. He wasn't inside at stoppages at all during the game. He really didn't do much wrong. I'm not superstitious, but we are 9-0 with him in the side, so I would keep him in at least as the sub.

Benny would be a big inclusion if available, but we will have to wait for the injury report to see if anyone is available to return this week.

I like the idea of Rohan playing off half back. In the short term this help him gain some confidence and in the long term, once he gets some pace back, he would be a great asset with his quick rebound. I'm not sure what his defensive skills are like though but he will have some great backmen to learn from.

Sounds like Tippett is close to a lock to return this week but Benny is still 50/50,
So Tippett in for Tom D, not necessarily because Mike is in better form but because he needs the match practice and will know Mummy's game a lot better than Tom - who could also do with a rest.
In a perfect world it will be Benny in for Shaw with Jones playing a full game in the back 6 and either B.Jack or Lloyd being sub.
If Benny isn't available then Robinson would be the likely replacement however with this not being possible it will almost definitely be Rohan again.
Would absolutely love to see Membrey get a game which would force Goodesy to play higher up the ground but I can't see it happening just yet...our team selection is notoriously conservative.
On another note, would also like to see Reid play a full game in the back 6, firstly just to see how he goes, secondly because GWS has a mammoth forward line and thirdly it will give Teddy and Grundy a chop out, they've really been battling hard the last couple of weeks. This may mean giving Laidler, Rampe or Mal a rest, none of them deserve to miss but it could do them wonders later in the season. If we're lacking run out of the backline we can always chuck the half-back flanker from the 2013 All-Australian team down there to provide it as well.

It looks like from the injury report that Tippett is more likely than McGlynn.

                        My new team:

Out - Tom D and Shaw
                        In - Tippett and Rohan

Rohan to get his chance on the half back line. Jones to play midfield and tag one of the Giants better runners (Shiel, Smith). Lloyd to Sub.

Tippett's injury is a pain issue, not one of causing further damage like a soft tissue strain. So if he's not in pain, he can play. If I were GWS and Cameron can play, I would keep Boyd and try to stretch the shorter Swans defence with their 3 #1 picks (giving Cameron the #1 status he deserves). This will almost certainly force Reid to the backline and make our forward line a bit more manageable for them. They will probably want to drop Jaksch for this game and go with Davis and Mohr against Tippett and Buddy, maybe Tomlinson will take Goodes. I think it's a good GWS strategy for the SCG to get the ball into the forward and back their big men to take contested marks against the smaller Swans defenders.

We know Mummy is going to smash whoever we put up against him, so we just have to take that into account and try to play the ball off his taps. We probably need to get the ball into space and reduce the number of stoppages. The more the ball moves around the park the better for the more experienced Swans, who are likely to keep their structure while the younger Giants will lose their way. At least that's the theory. What happens in practice may be a different story.

It looks like conditions will be good, which should suit the Swans and a more outside running game. I think if we come with right attitude we should take this game handily, but expect a very good fight from GWS.

Longmire agrees with you. Mummy is in ominous form.

"Longmire was in the stands as GWS knocked off the Blues on Sunday and knows his side will need to play well if it wants to continue its winning run.

"They're in good form. They're playing good football," Longmire said. "I saw them play yesterday and they were really good.

"It just struck me as I was watching them yesterday they've got 17 top-20 selections in their list. "It's extraordinary the level of talent. I think we've got six.

"But they're also working really hard and they're well coached, so it's no surprise they're a pretty competitive team at the moment. They're doing everything right."

Another selection dilemma for Longmire and his match committee is what to do in the ruck, particularly considering the form of GWS recruit and former Swan Shane Mumford.

Mumford was a colossus on Sunday, producing 55 hitouts, 18 disposals, nine tackles and four inside 50s to help will the Giants to their fourth win this year.

Mike Pyke and Tom Derickx combined for 38 hitouts, just nine possessions and six tackles against Richmond.

"It gives us something to think about for this week," Longmire said. "If Kurt gets through, which we expect he will, it gives us something to think about. We'll make that decision on Thursday as far as what the big man stocks looks like, with the full understanding that Mummy is back to his best."

Tippett, McGlynn could return for GWS match - sydneyswans.com.au

Jake Lloyd may have had a role to play and the coaching staff will know how he went in that role. The thing I saw from the stats is that he normally is one of the most efficient disposers of the ball in the club with 80+% efficiency. This week it was 64%. Interesting to see what happens.

We're at least a 4 goal better side with Tippett in.

Plus GWS will need an extra tall in their backline...

Probably Patton, who's been playing a bit in defence lately. So we won't be too stretched in defence even if Cameron plays.

It's looking like a dry day, so I'd like to see Membrey come in to release Reid and/or Buddy to play a roving role up the wings.

Put Pyke up against Mummy, he needs to give us a No.1 ruckman type game.

Our mids have been scavenging off opponents rucks all year anyway.

                                So for me:

                                OUT : Shaw, Derrickx

                                IN : Membrey, Tippett

I'll just add, if Lloyd is struggling as it appeared on Sat, then bring in Rohan.
