Why are we discussing soccer on a James Frawley thread? Did he play for Manchester at some stage?

Freo also need KPPs. WCE are in somewhat better shape.
If Jetta wanted to go we could possibly package up some combo of the 3 West Australians, Jetta, Marsh and Lockyer for the their 1st round pick, which would be around a pick 7 I would think. That should land us a pretty decent KPP in this draft. Jetta loves Subiaco. But I'm not suggesting that we should initiate such a trade. Jetta has a couple of kids. I don't know if his partner is from WA or not. Hard to say if there's any desire to go back home.Comment

We did get a second round for Buchanan. I was surprised that the Lions were so generous. Jolly wanted to go home and we got Jetta out of that. If some of the current players want to leave then we must get a good deal for ourselves. We should also move on players who look like they are waiting to use free agency.
Paul Roos was very proactive in turning over the list after the 2006 Grand Final appearance with a view to building another good side. Jude Bolton was even put up for sale. Roos was most successful in the 2009 trade period where we got Mumford, McGlynn, Kennedy, Reid, Rohan, Jetta. The only downside was Seaby but he did provide some service in a couple of games.
I am not sure the club was "very proactive" after the 2006 GF in turning over the list. Schneider and Dempster were squeezed out by salary cap pressures (and the desire to get Marty M). In 2009 a few things came together - Hall's departure and the contracted Jolly wishing to leave - which forced the club's hand a bit. To be fair to them, once they found themselves in this situation, they were pretty aggressive and decisive, not pussy-footing around to secure Mumford, identifying the undervalued Kennedy (and, to a lesser extent, Benny Mc), and holding firm on the Jolly trade to get a 3rd rounder as well as pick 14. It was also quite unSwans-like, having secured two first round picks, to use both of them on speedy x-factor players rather than using at least one on the more solid, plodding type that had tended to be associated with the Swans and our style of play.Comment

I thought Jetta would be worth a late 1st round pick, roughly where we picked him up. He's a very damaging player when he's on. It's hard to say what the value of Lockyer or Marsh would be. It's not much, but it should be more than nothing. Someone like Lockyer would likely have gotten a run in the seniors on a lot so teams, including the Eagles.Comment

We did not get a second rounder for Buchanan any more than we gave up pick 22 for Seaby. We got Seaby for a downgrade of pick 22 to pick 28 (I think it was - it was then used for Mummy) and Buchanan. I think we got a later pick thrown in too.

And I wouldn't trade him unless he has expressed a definite desire to go.Comment

I think that was the supposition. And there's a bit of a discount if a player wants to leave due to a go home factor. If given the choice of a Jetta or a pick 8, for instance, I'd take Jetta.Comment

Jetta has the potential to possibly play ten more years for us and is becoming a well rounded and classy player who is working very hard this year. I can see him in a forward pocket kicking thirty goals plus a year at the back end of his career. We have put a lot of effort into his development and anyone who thinks we should " package him " to get a draft pick is really not looking at the bigger picture. Give me a proven performer over an early draft pick any day especially given the way we are set up with our academy and f/s picks over the next couple of years. The only circumstances where we should even consider any deal is if he expressly wants to leave us.Comment

This talk of sending Jetts back to WA is just out and out rubbish. Is there any basis whatsoever for this talk? We are developing him into an even better footballer and from another thread, we pretty much all agree that he's still a work in progress adding more strings to his already formidable bow. Until anything remotely resembling a request to return to WA comes directly from his mouth I wouldn't think to entertain any speculation such as this.
RWO seems to be overly-infused with this sort of baseless speculation lately.......Comment

Fremantle would also be very desperate to secure the flag in 2015 as Sandilands, Pavlich and Mcpharlin are almost at the end. They would give up perhaps pick 17 or 18 for Jetta. Ross Lyon will go all out at one last generational shot at the flag if Fremantle don't get it this year. It was the same with his time at St Kilda.Comment

While I mostly disagree with a lot of the trade stuff Matt80 vomits up in these forums, in his defence in this instance, I think he's said if Jetta wants to return to WA for personal reasons. I don't think Matt80 has proposed we should trade Jetta just to get picks. But the Swans have historically tried to help players return home if that's where they want to go & can't be convinced of the merits of staying (RO'K being an exception, but they did try there too).Comment
