Spot on. I also say if Mitchell wants to leave.

I was not on Red and White in 2007, but did the forum go mental when Jude Bolton was put up for trade by Paul Roos. Did people show their outrage towards Roos?

I would not think so. If John Longmire said publicly that it's in the best interest of the Swans to trade Jetta and Mitchell most of the people who get outraged at me would suddenly say " the Horse is planning for the future and it's the right move for the club".

I'm waiting to hold all of you to account if you switch your position on trading Mitchell if Longmire said its a good idea to trade him.

Jolly re-signed but requested a trade mid-contract & was released.
But it would be hilarious to make a play for Dangerfield in top of Tippett. The people of Adelaide wouldn't let up ... ever!

I'm not sure if you can't see the difference ... Bolton was 8 years into his career & had a less than stellar year. Mitchell's star is on the rise.

I'll happily publicly concede, if you're proven correct about Mitchell before next season ... on the condition that you refrain from posting any trade hypotheses for 12 months if you're wrong & Mitchell stays?

And if in five years when he is on stage collecting his Brownlow as the latest in a long line of Swans can we then also hold you to account ?

Never going to happen, but it would be worth it to see Eddies head turn purple.

Nah, for Eddie we should go for Dane Swann ... his name alone should have him in red & white!

Fremantle would also be very desperate to secure the flag in 2015 as Sandilands, Pavlich and Mcpharlin are almost at the end. They would give up perhaps pick 17 or 18 for Jetta. Ross Lyon will go all out at one last generational shot at the flag if Fremantle don't get it this year. It was the same with his time at St Kilda.
I wouldn't be keen on trading to a legitimate like Freo. Not only are we losing a player, but we are giving our thread more strength. We'd be better trading with WC if possible.

Not sure why Longmire thinking it's a good idea would change anyone else's mind. I'd just think he has lost the plot.

I don't think the Swans would want to trade Mitchell or Jetta, but then Geelong didn't want to trade Mumford and Hawthorn didn't want to trade Kennedy. The point is that when have a great list and a tight salary cap, other clubs will target "vulnerable" players by offering something they are not getting at their current club eg. money, game time, on-field success, a more desirable location, long-term security etc.

The Swans might be able to fend off some of these offers, but at some point you have to decide which players you are going to go all-out to keep and where you are going to make the best of a bad situation. So what's the best we could make of players like Mitchell or Jetta leaving?

I'll also point out that it was about this time last year that someone posted the clearly insane idea that Buddy Franklin would be traded to Sydney, when everyone could blatantly see that we didn't have the cap space and didn't need him.

What is wrong with trade hypotheses? Red and White is forum of ideas, speculation and passion. It's about having a debate amongst friends.

i think that's what important to remember. We are all fans of the Sydney swans and that confers a degree of friendship

I'm at a loss why trading a player for draft picks is even considered by the Swans. We take the "left over" draft picks, select wisely (in most cases) and develop top level players. This way we get "cheaper" players for a why and with that leftover funds we buy what we want eg Tippett and Franklin. Maybe that is simplistic but my view anyway.

Thanks for the thread, Matt80?fantastically entertaining. I like the alternative universe nature of the whole thing. I think that I'd enjoy sitting next to you at a game?there'd never be a dull moment. Come on over to the O'Reilly Stand one cold night and we'll share a hip flask of single malt and cheer the boys on.

That's the key point I've been trying to make in this thread. Its one thing trading players on the way down, or in the case of Bolton, after they'd had a poor season, but still had good trade value. Its another thing to trade your up and coming stars, just because you think the 'new toy' (or toys) on the horizon may be better.
