When you hear some guy in his 60s or 70s make some off colour comment, you can see where it comes from, they grew up in the
1950s or 1960s where it was very common. But these morons that are the Melbourne football media pack aren't even that old. Most of these clowns are in their 40s and allegedly "grew up" in the 1980s. I presume they are so wrapped up in themselves and the sound of their own voice they haven't noticed that the Australia in 2016 is a different place to the old White Australia policy country. It's like last year with the booing of Goodsey, it bothered me that my love of footy meant I had something in common with so many grubby, stupid people. The people that stick up for McGuire & co (the it's just a bit of fun excuse) have reminded me of that.

Eddie's record over a long period is comparable to what you find in shock jock radio. We each may have our opinions about these media personalities.

The issue for me is whether such a person should be associated with the AFL. His comments over the years have been in direct conflict with official policy of the AFL on a wide range of social issues. He is a multiple offender on many fronts. He undermines the efforts of so many well-intentioned people who have worked with the AFL to raise the serious concerns of racism and violence against women. It makes a farce of everything the AFL does in this regard when they repeatedly allow Eddie to get away with these kinds of remarks with yet again a little slap on the wrist.

Whenever these things happen I ask myself: Why is he still permitted to be the president of Collingwood? Why is he still permitted to be a broadcaster of AFL games? Enough never seems to be enough when it comes to Eddie.

I was watching the live show that's on after the last game on Sunday nights a couple of week's ago and was pretty disgusted at the childish / boorish antics of the hosts, (Breretron, Frawley etc.) They made a huge and prolonged joke about Jonathon Brown's shoulders and laughed uproariously at incidents where people had accidents or got hurt doing silly things. Its time for all these types to start working out how you can be funny without humiliating or putting down someone else, or just stick to footy and leave the jokes/banter to others. Pathetic buffoons.

First of all, from what I heard of his apology he was apologising for the way people took what he said, not for what he actually said. He shifted the blame from his responsibility to the person who was offended - the typical response of a bully. Victimise the victim.
Secondly, this is as much about pack bullying as is about gender violence. If we separate the target (female) from the action we find something else that is underlying here. Apart from Eddie the other guys grew up being good at sport at school so were probably not on the wrong side of bullying and have no idea how they impact people. No such excuse for Eddie though.

I enjoy Frawley on Bounce where it is scripted humour. He is on the All Australian Selection Panel. One could argue that he should be sacked from the panel. Didn't he have personal issues last year. You would think.he would know better.

Surprised Carey (although minimal involvement - he still commented) barely rates a mention.

In defence of Carey, he very quickly divorced himself from it straight away on air when he said he thought Eddie was asking him whether he would be prepared to go down the slide next year, not whether he would be party to doing over Caro. FWIW, he seemed genuine and there was confusion...

AFL is weak on these matters when it involves Eddie. Interestingly the Pies BF board ranges from Neanderthal support for Eddie and those more enlightened types saying he's now bringing the Pies into disrepute, time to move on.

How many times can Eddie get away with this by using the excuse that what he says was just a joke? Talking about drowning someone is just "banter". Comparing Goodes to King Kong was just a bit of fun. Apologies just aren't good enough, it doesn't stop him from doing it again.
He is an embarrassment but unfortunately he is too powerful to be punished. The AFL is too soft and this has been proven yet again.
