It's somewhat off topic but there is a great deal of philosophical thought that suggests a benevolent dictator is a great form of government.
The Roman model of appointing a dictator and then term limiting them to ensure power could not corrupt seemed to briefly work during the war with Carthage.
Anyway carry on.Comment

I was merely making the point that mods arent democratically elected on a periodic basis.

Did someone dob me in to the mods?
Dobbers wear nappies.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Why worry about getting Matt80 back? We have a time wasting, off topic egotist here right now.Comment

Benevolent dictatorship isn't a form of government. Dictatorship is. It is only benevolent if you are lucky enough to find someone willing to operate in a dictatorial manner who is nonetheless a benevolent person. If he/she is not, there is no way of installing a replacement unless the incumbent agrees to leave. So good luck with that.Comment

moderation of an internet forum is usually a joint dictatorship, by whoever setup the forum and who is chosen to moderate. You rarely see voting, and once they are mods, no re-election process is put in place.
They are naturally benevolent, because if they arent, people leave and they close down. The internet, unlike countries, allows complete freedom of movement.Comment

Maybe what we need is a RWO exit (Rexit) vote. We could join the Essendon supporters group where discussions on drugs, court cases and other social issues are all on topic and every player who hasn't been suspended is a legitimate whipping boy. And things would be interesting even during the bye week when we could be discussing who we will take with our number 1 draft pick. We would all be happy after every game that we lose by less than 100 points. And Eddie McGuire would be the least of our worries, because so many of us would be sticking our own heads under water to worry about Caroline Wilson.Comment

Who are the moderators of RWO ?
Is there a list somewhere ?Comment

As far as I am aware they operate like any good secret society.
They meet in an undisclosed location, wearing deeply hooded robes (red & white of course).
You can only become a moderator if introduced by two other moderators.
They have no names just numbers assigned when they are first invited to join.
Apparently they hold a mean Christmas party though, there may be quaffing involvedChillin' with the strange QuarksComment

Seriously though, I believe there was a changing of the guard when Scott handed over the reins, I gave serious thought to assisting but in the end decided the responsibility was better in someone else's hands.Chillin' with the strange QuarksComment
