Maguire at his 'best' again. There are many different angles we can take on this. What he said to Brayshaw and Frawley was just silly boys talk. When he made the comment about King Kong and Adam Goodes it was just silly boys talk. He gets a certain tone in his voice when he is engaging in silly boys talk. It's like he's trying to egg on the others. He wants to be the ring leader of the boys club and they can all have a good laugh at someone elses expense. The trouble is that Eddie is a 50 year old man, wealthy and 'successful'. He needs to start behaving like an enlightened adult rather than a loudmouth cashed up bogan. He should have grown out of the 'silly boys talk' while still in his 20s. Basically, he needs to grow up.
As mentioned, his first response was along the lines of 'I'm only sorry because I got caught'. As mentioned, his second 'apology' is a PR stunt.
Ultimately, he is a media whore and any attention is better than no attention. As the president of Australia's largest and richest sporting clubs continual media attention is what he wants. But I'm not sure it's about Collingwood - it's all about Eddie. Collingwood is just one of the vehicles.
What can we do - no matter what they come up with wrt COLA, academy picks - we need to beat Collingwood whenever we play them.

Not sure about that last sentence, but the rest of your post is absolutely spot on. The Murdoch press is scum and responsible for the 'dumbing down' of Australia on so many issues. Their relentless pushing of right wing agenda under the guise of 'protecting Australian values' is turning this country into a mob of mindless, bigoted offensive bogans......and is perpetuating the view that anyone who challenges their view is some sort of weak, mindless 'lefty'. Of course, no bogan wants to seen as weak, so they choose the 'tough' line, unaware they're being totally conned. I'm afraid the quintessential Australian value of 'a fair go for all' is being lost in a haze of misguided but carefully calculated 'tough talk' perpetuated by those who have it all and want to keep it that way, and in turn is being embraced by those who will never have anything, but have been tricked into thinking they can by the same people who don't actually want them to have anything more than they have now.
