We've had enough McGuire!

You have to love Titus O'Reilly.
Eddie McGuire?s choose your own apology
A recent on air discussion about plunging Caroline Wilson into frozen water and having her not come back up, with Danny Frawley enthusiastically offering to hold her under while a group of us bombed her, has surprisingly upset some people.
Therefore, I?ve released a series of apologies on a sliding scale of remorsefulness.
Please pick the one that best fits with your world view.
1. There?s no need to apologise, it was all in good fun and for charity. For charity people.
2. This is really all Tony Shaw?s fault.
3. Someone could only be offended by these comments if they took them out of context. You have to listen to the entire 24-hours of radio surrounding these comments to understand. Have you done that? No, I didn?t think so.
4. While I can see how these comments would normally be offensive, they were in the spirit of the day, so were actually all in good fun. I can tell this is confusing to you but trust me.
5. Family violence is a serious issue and we all need to play our part and show leadership on this issue. I?m proud of all the work I?ve done in this area and I?ll continue to be a leader on these important issues. There is no need to thank me.
6. I?m truly sorry if people were offended by this innocent discussion.
Post-threat from major sponsor apology:
In the last 24 hours, and particularly since this morning, I?ve seen the impact of the comments on Caroline Wilson
No person should ever feel uneasy or threatened in football?s family. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologise unreservedly to Caroline for putting her in that position.
I am really disappointed that I made remarks that are at odds with my views on the place of women in modern Australia.Comment

I gave up listening to the MMM Saturday Rub years ago on the way to the footy as all they did was "banter" and "bully" each other.
Most the time in jest, but given the number of kids that probably listen to it, it is no wonder bullying is still rife in our schools and workplaces.Comment

You can add Clinton to make a trisector?...People like Trump and McGuire dont survive outside their own bubble. Trump may have got through the GOP nomination relying on rednecks, but in the wider presidential race he hasnt a chance.
McGuire got his ass run out of Sydney when he left his Melbourne bubble a few years ago.
McGuire reminds me of everything that is wrong with Melbourne.
This impacts us because the AFL is run out of victoria. As more teams come from outside Victoria the powerbase shifts, and when it does, people like Eddie become irrelevant.Comment

Absolutely weak as urine were the On the Couch team tonight too.....I didn't see Robbo on AFL 360 tonight but I imagine he was equally as weak. He loves to talk tough and hit easy targets like Alan Jones from the safety of Melbourne but he hasn't the balls to look straight at the camera and say "Eddie, it's time to go"

I think you should re-examine your assumptions. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Yes, I thought Robbo as quite strong on 360 last night. Gerard waffled on and lost me. The On the Couch crew were their usual lame selves. Robbo is a bit of an oddball, a weird mix of boofhead, eccentricity & sentimentality but he does occasionally cut to the chase
on an issue. Though he did trot out the one about how much Eddie has done for the poor people over the years.
I don't know why you'd assume that. He isn't my favourite journo, but fair's fair - he was one of the strongest voices condemning the Adam Goodes disgrace and those who excused it, and yesterday on SEN he was again very strong in his condemnation not only of Eddie's comments but also of Eddie and the broader culture of bullying and personal humiliation that is so entrenched in his strongholds of Channel 9 and MMM. I was surprised (and pleased) by how fearless and forthright he has been on both issues. No doubt he'll be the victim of some"good natured banter" as a square up in due course. For someone who sounds a bit of a bogan himself, he sure hasn't pandered to the bogan constituency on these issues and he is one of the rare media players actually prepared to call Eddie for what he is.
I think you should re-examine your assumptions.Comment

Not sure about that last sentence, but the rest of your post is absolutely spot on. The Murdoch press is scum and responsible for the 'dumbing down' of Australia on so many issues. Their relentless pushing of right wing agenda under the guise of 'protecting Australian values' is turning this country into a mob of mindless, bigoted offensive bogans......and is perpetuating the view that anyone who challenges their view is some sort of weak, mindless 'lefty'. Of course, no bogan wants to seen as weak, so they choose the 'tough' line, unaware they're being totally conned. I'm afraid the quintessential Australian value of 'a fair go for all' is being lost in a haze of misguided but carefully calculated 'tough talk' perpetuated by those who have it all and want to keep it that way, and in turn is being embraced by those who will never have anything, but have been tricked into thinking they can by the same people who don't actually want them to have anything more than they have now. The perfect 'con job', and our country is falling for it. Very sad......Comment

This has all been tried and tested and proven successful in the United States, so there is little doubt that it would succeed in Australia as well. The disciples of Leo Strauss are in control of all the relevant institutions in most Western countries now and there's really not much that can be done about it. Lucky we have footy to keep us distracted from the dismal reality of our situation. Even more so that we are Swans supporters and can take some pleasure from the distraction. It could have been worse.Comment

I would say the world is on a slippery slope to a revolution, but I fear the power and influence of those we would rebel against is too greatly established to let the 'truth' come out and manifest in anger and retribution. Besides, the keepers and protectors of the rich, the 'authorities' ie: army and police, would squash and silence it anyway, to maintain the status quo for the entitled. Very sad!
Anyway this discussion is for another thread and not a footy forum.Comment

We could actually contribute to world peace here.
Send Eddie to take the place of Trump's sacked campaign manager.
Australia is shot of Eddie, making us a less sexist, less racist, less homophobic country.
The US will have the benefit of Trump's campaign going to the the toilet under Eddie's gentle coaching.
Two countries infinitely better off and less aggravation around both places.Comment
