Yes I thought even though Pyke battled really well, he was beaten in that area. He should have received a couple of frees being held, pushed grabbed during throw ins, buyt umpires seems to only pick one or two out during a game. Grey and Ebert played hard footy. Even though Bird had a lot of possessions, he turned the ball over a lot.

I loved Rohan's goal, exciting to see him use his pace to get so wide open in the F50 that he had time to collect a slightly wayward kick and straighten up with relatively little pressure.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I was really puzzled by Jetta's game. He did some great tackles and chases, but then I think during the second Qtr, had the ball clear in the centre and dribbled the ball forward straight to Port players, miles from Franklin or Tippett. At the end of last weeks game he was limping badly so not sure if he is carrying an injury. May be time for a rest before next month?Comment

I thought this was a gutsy win! Without significant contributions from some of the bigger names and against a team that obviously played better than it has for a while, I was more than happy with this result!

To me the umpiring has not changed that much this year. In all games there are frees that should be paid and arent and frees that shouldnt that are.
What has really annoyed me this year is the commentators banging on about missed frees or touchy frees. The commentators talk about how difficult it is to umpire and then spending the whole game umpiring from their box.
To me it would be more enjoyable for them to talk about the game than listen to them dissect every passage of play into what should or shouldnt be free kicks.
I do agree that the Franklin one should have been a free to Port.Comment

I caught the Giants vs. North game yesterday (first half was good to watch!), at one point there was a 1 on 1 between Patton and Grima in the Giants goal square with nobody else around them- they got caught in a bit of a wrestle as it was bombed in, they broke apart and Patton went towards the fall of the ball and misjudged it, the ball bounced up high towards Grima and he opted to punch it clear- directly over the boundary line. Now you can do that in a marking contest if you're spoiling, but I think it's reasonable to say that once the ball bounced then it was no longer a marking contest and Grima was just getting the ball out of trouble's way. The umps opted to just throw it in, much to GWS' disgust, and there wasn't a single bit of discussion on it from the commentary team because they were too focused on their own conversation. For some reason that drove me mad for the rest of the game every time they focused on the relative merits of a minor indiscretion, purely because I was left thinking they didn't really have an understanding of the rules- and I wasn't even sure if it should have been a free or not, I just thought if they had the foggiest idea they would have picked up and discussed it either way.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

I just watched it again, it's on the afl website in the replays under "Buddy pushed his luck" at http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2014/20/port-v-syd
I still don't think it was a free- I don't think his hands made contact, and I don't really think there's a pushing motion- the defender looked like he was backing in feeling for contact and went down like a sack of spuds the second he thought it was there. Listening to the commentary on that little replay it highlighted one of the issues for me with the AFL media- Dunstall is just absolute in his determination of it being a free kick (even with a little chortle), there's no consideration or discussion that it might not be.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

If people here think the commentary on the TV was bad, they should try listening to the radio stations!
Didn't watch the game last night as I don't have foxtel and couldn't be stuffed heading out to a bar. Decided to listen to the game on radio via afl.com.au and have Geel vs Freo on the telly with the mute on. Every single radio station available via afl.com.au(triple m, sen, abc, 5AA, national indigenous radio,) was S.A. based and very one sided and biased.
Decided to stick with sen and I kid you not, they would literally ONLY call out the power player's name and hardly call out the swans players. There were countless passages of plays where I'd hear them name power player's names multiple times, only for a goal to end to the swans. Seriously could not get a gage on what was actually happening on the field from this style of commentary. It was very frustrating.
Anyhow, waiting to watch the replay on afl.com.au when available later today.
Will add, as a sidenote, I'm a very superstitious person and have done this on many occasions over the years(listen to the game on radio when on foxtel and not head to a friends place or bar with foxtel) and we've yet to defeated when I've done this.
Being superstitious as I said earlier, I might have to continue this.Comment

Dwayne Russell a former Port Adelaide Player, and Roo a South Australian so biased, Even JD got caught up in it that is Port support. Why have the 2 SA for a home game in Adelaide. As for the umps Razor seems like he likes to overrule his partners. Shocking
Another thing the p/s is our to loose and by that I mean our kicking to our teammates is pathetic and whilst Mal has been tremendous this year his positional kicking is pathetic, Birdy , and Shaw not much better.Comment

Nice win last night - our pressure is right up there and it looked very slippery out there when the rain came. That was good tough semi-final style footy which we may not get again for a couple of weeks.
It's funny sometimes on RWO - our opponents' disposal may be poor and that's due to our great tackling and relentless pressure - but when our disposal is not 100% perfect it's due to player x's pathetic skills. Hmmm.....Comment

The issue is, many former players don't actually know the rules. US sports and commentators kill ours for their knowledge and explain actions of the rules. Not only that but what Buddy did has always been the rule Plugger and Alistair Lynch got a third of their goals that way. No double movement, no push.
It is what ends up causing so much frustration, the actual commentators don't know the rules, and we have the prevailing view here that ex players are full of wisdom on the game when actually many are cluelessYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

Port have been the main media talking point all week and have had the spotlight firmly on them, teams under that kind of pressure always come out firing and that's exactly what Port did and we beat them by 26 points, how so many on here are still complaining is beyond me.
And as far as the commentary goes, I'd take Dwayne, Ricciuto and Dunstall every day of the week over that idiot Taylor and his channel 7 cohorts or McGuire, Brereton, etc, Port centric or not!!!Comment
