A little harsh. James Paterson broke down after giving his all in that final test in South Africa. Starc broke down after bowling his heart out in India. It depends on the physical talents of the player. It's rare to find players as physically resilient as Mitch Johnson in cricket and Josh Kennedy in AFL. Those two guys relish the workload. Other players need to rest their bodies and be managed carefully. It depends!

The point was that Lehmanns philosophy is to not rest players unless injured as opposed to Mickey Arthur's rotation policy which has been far more successful for the Australian cricket team.
No one is saying to not rest injured players, just that many of us don't believe in resting players for the hell of it as many on here are suggesting.Comment

For sure. Club medicos have tools that can measure players' workloads and stack that up against their physical capabilities. They know pretty precisely if a player is cooked and could benefit from a week off. Rather than, say, list off a random bunch of players 'who look tired.'The point was that Lehmanns philosophy is to not rest players unless injured as opposed to Mickey Arthur's rotation policy which has been far more successful for the Australian cricket team.

My opinion FWIW (less than half a packet of stale biscuits):
- We are at the top of the ladder
- Win the next 2 games and the first semi and we automatically get a week off for the whole team
- Quite a few of our players have had enforced rests recently due to injury
I say play everybody that is match fit this week.CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"
Policeman: "Yes, I was married once."Comment

Technically, we only need to win one. If Hawthorn win two that means Geelong can only win one, putting us on equal points in second but at a better percentage. If Geelong win two that means Hawthorn will be four points behind us.My opinion FWIW (less than half a packet of stale biscuits):

If we win the next one against the Dogs the case is there to rest a handful of players against Richmond, especially on the dodgy ANZ stadium deck.Comment

Agree whole heartedly. But as we are not privy to inside medical assessments, all we can do is put forward opinions. But I do trust our club to make all the right decisions.I think what people are trying to say either way is:
If resting certain players will benefit the group and give us the best chance of winning the premiership, then do it,
If not resting players will benefit the group and give us the best chance of winning the premiership, then do it.
Either way we should trust the guys getting paid the big bucks to make these calls!Comment

Depends if we would rather play Freo or Geelong week 1 of finals.Technically, we only need to win one. If Hawthorn win two that means Geelong can only win one, putting us on equal points in second but at a better percentage. If Geelong win two that means Hawthorn will be four points behind us.

I think Tommy Mitchell & Smithy are automatic ins out of that lot. Rhyce can't play through the mids really. He can play forward or back though. If he comes in it would be for either Laidler or Biggs. With two mids out I would think that Smithy would come in and take the back pocket and Mitchell would go to the mids. That would free up Biggs to play wing defensive mid against their faster players. What happens is Kizza, Parks, Macca, Hannas etc to run off after the centre bounces and leave Biggs to take the faster players like Libber, Cooney or Boyd. Griffin is not fast but elusive and probably will get Parks & Mitchell as opponents, he could be in for a long night as hos defensive game is not always that great.
Biggs did a great job on Lenny last week and might also be a good match for Griffin. But I think he might just get Boyd after the bounce.Comment

Minson is out for the Dogs, so they are starting Tom Campbell in the ruck with perhaps a backup from Ayce Cordy playing his first game this year. It's the perfect time for the Nankanator to make his debut.
I don't think WB have any allusions about winning this game.Comment

Libber and Boyd would be two of the Dogs' slowest players. Cooney used to be quick but injuries have curtailed his speed somewhat.
On the other hand, Griffin genuinely is quick. He'd be one of their quickest two or three.Comment

Or, alternatively, we could play all our first choice players who are fit enough to play with a view to them getting a game in at the very same venue that we will almost certainly be playing at the following week.
I am willing to wager a bit on which approach Longmire and co will take.Comment
