Two great developments over the past week.

NSW government has approved adding a roof to ANZ stadium, and is not going to move the seating. There was a proposal to move the ends in which would have made an oval configuration difficult, so no change there means it retains its premium AFL configuration.

ANZ has very good accoustics in places (half way, back a bit), and very poor accoustics when outside the roof zone. A full roof will make an electric atmosphere wherever you sit. Excellent news.

And finally, a little tip for ANZ members booking this coming Richmond game, you can bring up to 3 kids for free under your membership. Same applies for the 20/20 cricket game in november.

The changes I saw were to make the ends slide in and out. This would have extended the angled seat problem from just a few seats around half forward, to the pockets. Good job to avoid this IMO.

Fact is you are so far back from the field it's not funny and worst still, some of the seats don't even face the middle! Very hard place to watch footy.

My only two comments are that I wish people would call the place Homebush (or the Olympic Stadium) instead of some transient sponsors' name and I'd prefer all Sydney Swans games be played at the SCG (even though I don't mind going to Homebush).

This will hopefully mean an acceptable surface on the wings, unlike the present uneven, rock hard, mess.

But the angle of the stands, and seating, won't change. They are much too shallow, which means viewing for most is miles away from the playing surface.

If a couple of games there a year means we get a good deal at the SCG....I'll live with that.

I dont understand that argument. Ive been to some massive rectangular games there this year. SOO, Bledisloe, Juventis, and for those games the shallow ness is the same as AFL (level 1 sides) and for worse anywhere else. Yet no one complained at any of them.

Once the roof is on, the only bad seats will be the level 6 nosebleeds, but that the same as any big stadium, even the MCG.

If a couple of games there a year means we get a good deal at the SCG....I'll live with that.

That is simply not true. I've sat at the back at the MCG and in the top tier no where near the back row at the ANZ. It's like comparing watching the footy on your phone in comparison to 40" TV, the MCG seats are way closer to the ground.

The stands will still move. The surface will still be rubbish. The area surrounding will still be a wasteland and the atmosphere will be average at the best of times.

Barry, there is a place for your unfailing optimism about ANZ: I smile whenever I see it appear.

But I agree with Ernie's pragmatism, that one of its most important features is that it enables us to nudge the SCG Trust!

I wonder if these developments mean that the ANZ trust have come to some sort of agreement with the Swans hierarchy in regards to a future commitment beyond the current contract to play games there?

I understand that it makes sense financially but it would be a disaster football-wise. We are a significantly better team when playing at the SCG and to compromise our home-ground advantage by playing at ANZ Stadium isn't right.

If this is in fact the case let's all cross our fingers that it won't include any matches in September...
