Does anyone know how AJ is getting on. News about his progress is hard to find.

Is he a chance of playing in 2015, or will he still be recovering. I hope that he will get back to his 2012 form in 2015.

Even if he is fully fit for the start of 2015 (exceptionally doubtful I'd expect), I don't think we will see him back near his best for at least another 12 months after that. Look how long its taken Rohan to come back after his horrific injury, and AJ's is worse, given that he was so close to being back when it went again. It'll take him a long time to get confidence back.

All we need to hope for AJ is that he can have an injury free year next year and get some serious playing time in the NEAFL towards the end of it. Anything on top of that would be a fantastic bonus.

I look forward to the day that he makes his return to the first 22 - it won't matter where that game is, I will be making sure i get along to it to cheer him on - he has had such rotten luck after 2012, and I so want to see him back in the team where he belongs. The even better part is that outside of the Swans, most have forgotten just how good he was in 2012 - it'll be like another brand new signing

Anthony Moranbito looks to have done something serious again. AJ needs to get this knee right and have a lot of luck through the remainder of his career.

That's true Melbourne Blood, but AJ has now had to have it basically redone twice - there has to be huge doubts in his mind about it. I have no doubt he will come back well - but it'll take a long while till the confidence fully returns, hence my comment that I think, all things going well, it'll be 2016 before he is back near his best.

That is the point.

Compound fracture, usually quite severe, especially in the weightbearing bones femur, or in this instance tibia. Residual pain can last a lifetime.

Straight ACL, usually ok - especially if rehabbing it full time. 9-12 months to be 70-90% ok, often more normal up around 2 years (eg Taylor Walker ... should be back to his best next year, even though he resumed this year, he hasn't even at his best).

Concomitant injuries (MCL, meniscus - or slightly less commonly LCL) can slow recovery depending on the severity.
Problem with these, and especially multiple ACL ruptures, is the psychological confidence. While the knee might be structurally ok, there is a loss of proprioception, & potentially poorer dynamic (muscular) support.
These deficits are thought to play a role in delayed recovery & re-rupture.

One of the potential benefits of the LARS is argued that the accelerated return to rehab can reduce the amount of de-conditioning experienced by the patient (there are many well documented problems associated with the LARS that would offset the benefits in the orthopaedic world).

Bottom line is Alex cannot be compared, recovery-wise with Gaz. That's akin to comparing watermelons with grapes.

I predict that by 2016 we will have at least 30 players on $1 million per year contracts and the AA squad will be comprised of all Swans. Nonetheless, we will finish last and claim the number 1 draft pick and will be granted 2 priority picks to boot. The AFL will also reinstate the COLA to accommodate the salary requirements of our great player list.

Say what you like about Matt80's thoughts on trades and list management but the club has got to where it is with some left field thinking that shocked both us fans and the general AFL community.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if a midfielder was traded this year for a high draft pick to get hold of one of these gun talls the draft experts talk about. As to which one well who knows.
What I do think is we would be incredibly reluctant to lose both Malceski (to someone else) and Shaw (to pasture) at the one time. I'm convinced one will be here next season. Our back 6 has been a cornerstone of our success and we want continuity there.

Maybe danger is fantasy, but he is my favourite player outside the Swans.

I've outlined ways to get either Ryder or Carlisle.

What got to be remembered about the Swans is that we took 4 guys in the Nab draft in 2012 and 2013. We have also upgraded three rookies in that time. That is more draftees and more rookie upgrades than a lot of clubs. Those 11 players would not be on much money. We are likely to upgrade around three rookies at the end of this year, which don't cost a lot of money.

We are saving plenty of cap at the bottom end.

Dangers next contract will dwarf Buddy's, at least in terms of $ per season I reckon. 1.5 mill upwards. Buddy might pull a Ryder and try to squirm out of his current contract to get a prettier penny elsewhere!

Buyer Beware! As much as I admire Dangerfield he needs, or his coaches need, to help protect his body. He has been playing "collision footy" since his junior days. Most of this year we did not see the best of him due to injuries and worse still, the crows continually playing him hurt. Unfortunately, Dangerfield's longevity could very well match Brereton who went downhill quickly too early. I'd play Dangerfield forward more to help protect him.
