Given the complete lack of transparency in the compensation process, the pick could be anything. The AFL might decide to "punish" us for recruiting the highest profile free agent yet a year ago, and ramp down the compensation they award. It is worth noting that Carlton have been given nothing for Waite. Not even a 3rd rounder.Comment

Cost of getting buddy, not the extra cash. All of these decisions are projected, ie ROK, LRT, etc to pay our key forwards. However we are well positioned to replace him with Jones or McVeigh, or Biggs if he stays...Staying ahead of the game...Comment

I agree with the previous sentiments in that it is sad to see the Eski go but understandable. I really though Biggs would be given a chance now that backline spot has opened up. The Swans must see Jones (or Macca as bondy said a few posts up) as a better replacement. Surprising, Biggs seemed to be a very good kick.Last edited by RogueSwan; 7 October 2014, 08:21 AM."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Sad but sense prevailed not offering him a 3 year deal. I think Biggs will take thayt spot. Maybe not in finals. Has the running power and heightYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Let me add my thanks and safeness to see Malceski going but I wish him every success at the Gold Coast. As I type this I am sitting in a hotel on the GC and I drove past Metricon stadium just yesterday afternoon. Maybe I'll have to come back up next year when we play the suns to watch
I think most swans supporters will be most gracious when seeing him play like we have been with MumfordComment

The Mal decision is sad but the best for both parties. We couldn't guarantee him three more years and GC could - and at a pay packet that will set him up for retirement. I'm not convinced he's the right temperament to be a coach. But, after living through all that SARS saga with him - plus his bookend goals in the 2012 GF - it make this one of the saddest departures ever.
I think it also reinforces that the club doesn't make sentimental list decisions. Mal wants three years and we don't think he's got that long - gone. Mummy likewise. That puts Goodes and Shaw in an interesting light. I think Shaw (like, I hope ROK) has been told that if he drops off he'll be mentoring the twos, and he'd be great in that role. Goodes is Goodes so that may be all there is behind it - but I suspect that his stem cell treatment really is reversing his problems and the team may be expecting him to keep improving. I can't see him in the twos, though that'd be a scary prospect for the opposition.
When I think of players that left for other teams, Jolly is the only one I don't feel fondly towards. I'm gratified to hear that he said that he enjoyed his time at the Swans a lot more than his time at the Pies. But the others - Sean and Shneids, Amon, Mummy, I have only good wishes.
And I've been both surprised by and perversely proud of our selectors in seeing how few of our bit players (TDL, Jessie?? etc) who haven't played better after a move.Comment

I was upset at Mummy going (so much so I took up a GWS 3 game membership), but that was offset by getting Buddy and of course the retirements of the likes of Stewie, Jude, Kirky, CBolts, MickeyO etc were sad but they were retiring, to see a favourite son leaving to play at another club of his own volition is pretty tough to take though I fully understand the reasoning behind it from both NicMals and the clubs position.
I wish him all the best and can never imagine booing him, even when taking a shot on goal (of course that thought could change in the heat of battle, but it's hard to imagine).Comment

Sad to see Mal go but understand his reasons. Always a player I have thoroughly enjoyed watching and his two goals in the 2012 grand final will always be remembered.
I think we now need to keep Biggs - I hope the posts earlier quoting SEN that Biggs has asked to be traded are as accurate as most SEN reports.

My guess is the compo pick for Mal will be around the end of 2nd round.
Then what we do with it will be interesting.....I'm guessing we may make a play for Patful now.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment
