Can Goodes be delisted, signed on as a coach and then play on as a top-up and mentor for the NEAFL team if he wants to keep running around and kicking a footy?
Of course, not sure if Adman would want to do this but is such an arrangement allowed. Just askin'.
Just remember that we are under some salary cap pressure. Any trades would involve us being able to afford whoever we bring in. We're going to save whatever we were paying LRT and ROK at the very least. There may be one or more others but I am refusing to speculate on current players while our season is still going. If we have room on our list I'd have thought we'd be more likely to look at what they'd call "squad players" in the Premier League (ie Laidler, TD), who we can pick up via trading late draft picks or as delisted free agents. For the most part we have had faith in this method plus the rookie list and, more recently, a high profile free agent or two.

C'mon Doc that's not playing the game. But it does raise a point I think we can discuss now. I think it was unlikely that the Swans saw the decline on ROKs game happening so quickly. But they probably thought Goodes (on seniors list) may not play again with his knee. So the salary cap may have more space before the ceiling than we expected when we were signing Buddy. Some of that is going to have to go on re-signing the players that have really stepped up (Pyke must have been expected but Parker's rapid rise may not have been).
While I hate talking about trading players who I hope will win us a Premiership this month, I'd love to hear from those with more expertise than me about how our salaries are probably going. Can we tell Mummy all is forgiven, go after A graders, or sign a few cheapies and pay fair wage to the kids we have turned into stars?
Please can we leave Mal off the trade table? He wants to stay - and will if we can afford him.

GWS did this with Sam Reid (their Sam Reid not ours) this year. But that may be a special case as they were also exempt from the listed players restrictions that we were under. But Reid is only 24 years old and would be keen to keep his competitive juices flowing at such a young age, whereas I don't think Goodes would be gaining much running around on his 35 year old legs in front of a few hundred fans in the NEAFL each week.
Parker is a no trade for me. Within 12 months he will be the best midfielder on our list. Better than Kennedy, Jack, Hannas and Mcveigh. He is also our next Captain in my opinion.
I think Goodes has one more year if they can find the right monetary deal. He is gaining fitness and may have the productive pre-season he has been denied in the past two years.
I would advise against Dustin Fletcher, but a mid-season draft may allow players like Dustin who still want to play, the opportunity to help injury ravaged teams.

I'm still very happy to play the game, my only personal restriction is the one I specified. It feels ghoulish and I'd rather enjoy our finals run than speculate about specific players still involved in it. Your point about ROK's decline is well made though. Sadly I think Mummy has gone for good. We can't afford to get him back, resigning TD told us that.

I can't help but feel that Mummy was given GWS's Best and Fairest as a parting two finger salute to the Swans. He had a very good season for them though, which was bittersweet to watch.

I don't really care who wins the midgets B and F.
Mummy left us and thought he could do better at GWS so good luck to him.
I think McVeigh will step aside either this year or next and it will be Jack and Kennedy captains...then Jack will step down for Hanners and eventually Kennedy for Parker. Parker and Hannebery will be great co-captains.

Those two will give new meaning to the term "driving the team"!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
Why don't they bite the bullet young Parker is a born leader don't know if he can speak and command respect but just on determination,he reminds me of Kelly so driven ?
It seems to me that we have two pretty fine captains at the moment and that onfield and off-field leadership is not an issue. If it gets to the point that one of them feels like stepping away from the captaincy, we are lucky to have a few candidates to step up. Nick Smith is one name not yet mentioned (I think) who is in the leadership group and seems much respected within the club. However, both Macca and Jack are still within their footballing prime and don't appear to be weighed down with the pressures of captaincy. Macca, in particular, seems to have really improved as a footballer since he became a captain and has been great in big games towards the end of each year when we've most needed players to step up. I'm happy to enjoy the captains we currently have and let the young leaders on the list grow into their roles.
