Forget pick number 1. It is not going to happen. If we trade for a higher pick than we already have then we will have to use it on Heeney. If we do any trading it will be for specific players.

Except that the Academy & F/S picks are done before trade period starts.

I thought academy & f/s picks were done before trades were finalized, thus it makes no difference at all to what we will pay for heeney.

OK. Minor detail. But otherwise I would have been 100% correct.

            2) If we done believe the current group can win the next premiership then we re-make the team. We get pick one. We get Patrenka and match him firstly with Heeney, Mitchell and Hewitt then with Mills and Dunkley. Led by Parker, we will rebuild this midfield slowly. Kennedy, Jack and McVeigh are not as good at Sam Mitchell, Lewis and Hodge in the big games.

Except in the last game of the season in 2012.

Our defence is a massive worry. Shaw has got to go. Continuously goes to ground, has lost his turn of pace and his kicking skills are a liability. Has been a great servant but must be moved on after next year.

We got killed in the ruck again today. Pyke isn't good enough when it comes to the big dance. Needs support. Mumford anyone? Been a massive loss.

Oh well. Onwards and upwards. GO BLOODS.
I thought Pykey was quite good, he got more tap outs than Hale and McEvoy combined, but yes, they were a lot more damaging around the ground. I agree, he does need support though. Let's hope the young guys develop quickly. We need a tallish, mobile, quality KD immediately, and I agree with those who say Reid needs to go down back permanently. He could go forward if needed, but that wouldn't be much(If Goodesy plays on! If that's wise!?) And yes, develop those young mid's and promote Mitchell and Membrey in the pecking order.

It wasn't the ruck we got killed in - Pyke and Tippett did enough in there. It was getting first hands on the pill in the clearances where we got absolutely murdered. Ruckman can't solve that problem - its the midfield that was the issue.

Wouldn't trade Jetta. He may seem mentally disconnected at the moment but no fundamental reason why his form can't be built up again.
Jetta was spent at the end of the PF. I suspect his season finished then.

Rohan: As good as he played against North I don't think he is a back man. Much better suited to the wing where he can make space and drop back as a spare back. Having to concentrate on beating one man doesn't appear to be his go. Then again most thought he wouldn't play much this year.

Not Pyke's fault yesterday. The mids didn't go where the ball was, at centre bounces. By the way was that a record low for around the ground stoppages and boundary throw ins?

Some good reasoned posts on here since the shock has worn off.

No point throwing all our toys out of the pram but yesterday asked some questions of our list that we failed badly

                      * Shaw and Goodes to retire
                      * Jetta trade bait (believe he is worth a first round pick if we offer some other sweeteners)
                      * Reid to be traded unless we make a commitment to turn him into a defender
                      * If either of those trades happen then we will probably be able to Malceski and I think we need him. If we don't then I think we could have enough salary cap for a mid tier young backman
                      * Membrey or Towers to be our third forward (feel that four bigs up front never really worked) this year never
                      * Keep the faith with Rohan, Cunningham and Rampe despite their average performances yesterday
                      * Mitchell, Jones and Heeney to all be given plenty of chances from the get go next season

I was absolutely gutting for our guys to turn on that insipid performance but I still believe we have a good and deep list.

Only issue is that the Hawks are cashed up with their Buddy budget money and apparently ready to spend so their list will be very very strong next year. Throw Frawley into that team plus perhaps another free agent and they will be formidable

If Cunningham is only to be a tagger then we have got problems. Prior to him coming a tagger he was a very outside player who didn't like physical contact. I can't see as a tagger that he has toughened up. I think Jones as a replacement for HC is a far better option.

Why is Jetta suddenly flavour of the day for trading? Mystifying.....

Shaw and Goodesy (sadly) for me. If this trade banter continues we'll have no one left on the list with any experience and 45 kids which is about where the Saints are now

Not possible. We know that we are only a good side because we have a bursting salary cap, boosted by COLA. The Hawks' list is as least as good as ours, arguably better. Therefore it is impossible that the Hawks aren't over their salary cap already, let alone having tons of room to sign a free agent.

                                Have I got it right?
